There are a few possibilities.  One is that Ife was her birth name and her adopted parents named her Gloria (or vice versa)...another could be that (correct me if I'm wrong anyone) that I think that sometimes African parents give their children 2 names...I think sometimes one is more biblical or Anglicised and then a more traditional African one...Sorry if I have that wrong anyone!

Or another is that she chose Ife as a stage name...perhaps she wanted a more traditional name or something?

I did read that her birth parents were both African (from different countries, I recall)...so maybe one reflects her Mothers country and one her Fathers?

Yes, this happens. Definitely common in West Africa (and I think Ife has roots in Nigeria). I have 2 Ghanaian names (one is the day I was born) eg. Kofi means born on Friday...and the female version is Afua. I was born on a Saturday, so my name is Amma (male=Kwame).  My English name is Suzy

I've always thought that was a really pretty name, shame the housemate was such a gobby bint

That's interesting about what day you were born on influencing your name.  I think Romani people give their children a name that reflects the first thing their Mother sees after giving birth, again I may have that wrong.  I try to remember interesting stuff but I just forget it all the next day

Thats a joke I heard.
Young boy asked his father why his sister was called Sunshine ,his father then told him when his sister was born his mother looked up to see the most beautiful sun shining through the sky,and keeping with tradition she named the baby after the first thing she saw Sunshine. The young boy thanked his father and walked away, but his father called to him "Why do you ask two dogs Sha**ing in the Park"?
