The news articles just refer to Visa card payments so presumably both. Mastercard and American Express cards aren't affected.

Just as well that I paid cash for my lunch today. I most often use my Visa Debit card!

Just heard on the news it’s Mastercard too El 

My card was declined in Tescos ,contactless and chip and pin...luckily I had enough cash to pay...but it's troubling nonetheless

That was lucky Amythist .....I bet loads of people got caught out though I used mine in Morrisons about 2 o’clock and it went through ok ...thankfully

I recently encountered my first cash-less shop: it was a place in the forecourt of Paddington Station which sells sushi (bento boxes and such-like) to go. They don't take cash at all: it's mainly contactless payments. Needless to say I've been wondering quite a bit over the weekend how they coped during rush-hour last Friday. 

I used to get a lot of stick from my mates years ago for not using a credit card, but it was not that I refused to use one at all; I just refused to use it for everything. I'm not happy about the security behind a lot of electronic payment methods (justifiably-so IMO, given recent events) and have other issues with them too, but primarily I simply believe it's a good idea to have a wide range of payment options to fall back on. 

I've still got a cheque book - something-else that's been mentioned a bit on the news in the aftermath of Friday. I recently fought some subtle (and not-so-subtle) attempts by my bank to discourage me from using it, and indeed I've even been trying to get my parents to get one again. I still have a cheque book too. I don't use it very often, but from time to time we get meat delivered from the butcher's and usually give him a cheque to pay for it.

Some of the annual maintenance bill get paid by cheque too!

I too still have a chequebook though I rarely use it. And it's in the plastic cheque book cover I got when I opened the account back in something like 1970 or 1971.
