Hi Yogi.

What do you think to it so far?

It's based on a Stephen King story is it not?

Yes, I think it is a Stephen King story.

Tbh, I don't usually watch stuff like this but it is intriguing.

I want to know if they will run out of oxygen or is the dome permeable, also the food and water supplies. If no water is getting in !!!!

Mmmm, this is starting to get a bit familiar to me. I've seen these types of situations played out before in programmes like Lost et al. People with secrets that we know will be strung out for as long as possible but will obviously some form of impact, others displaying problems which we get glimpses of. People who we start of thinking are good, but are bad, people who are hiding or running from past problems.

I find it hard going too.  Kind of seen it all before.  Reminds me of that other series about a mid west town after a nuclear exchange - although it's not quite as dull as that.

Stephen King's characterisations rarely depart from generic homespun mid town, mid west, good ole boys and girls with small town pasts, drink problems, estranged inlaws and infidelities.  Kind of like a Bruce Springsteen song.  I don't think King can be bothered to write characters that are out of his comfort zone, which makes his characters one dimensional (apart from their secrets) clichÃĐs that I find it difficult care about.

Do they have electricity if a dome's cut off their village, where's their food coming from?  They all walk around in that program in a state of minor concern like they've run out of biscuits, when in reality the situation would be far more grave.

I would imagine the hysteria in the C4 program "Blackout", last night, is far closer to what would actually happen in that situation.

They've tried to address the electicity issue by some of the homes having their own generators (not unrealistic in that sort of town). I do think they're over-simplifying the potential problem though...

Food wouldn't be an issue short-term. My understanding is that the book only covered events over a few days though, whereas the TV series will cover a much longer period. I therefore wonder how realistically the series will handle the food problem long-term. TBF, they have already dealt with problems caused by medicine shortages.

I do understand your problems with the show, though. I'm still watching, but only just, and if I'm still not "hooked" after the next couple of episodes I'll probably ditch it...

*Warning*

I'll try to keep as vague as possible here, but some of the following may still constitute spoilers for those who have read the book:

******

I  haven't read the book (and have no plans to), but I've read a synopsis of it, and some of Stephen King's comments re the TV series. From what King has said, the TV writers "have completely re-imagined the source of the Dome". This is a shame IMO, because from what I've since read, the source of the Dome in the book is exactly what I thought was going to be the "solution" to the TV series right from the start!

Apart from that though, much of the TV series is apparently pretty faithful to the book - in particular the reason for Big Jim stockpiling all that propane.

The main changes are largely due to the writers wanting to keep the story going for a while: the events in the book only covered a few days...

That's my best guest too. The whole scene with the 3 young 'uns sitting around the "egg" certainly gave the impression that the "4th hand" would belong to another young(ish) male.

I haven't really given this a lot of thought, but one idea I've had ever since Joe and Norrie kissed while the world outside the Dome exploded was that the Dome (or whatever's behind it) is setting up a sort of Adam & Eve / Garden of Eden scenario. Pairing Angie with Junior would make some sense in that case (the Dome may see them as a natural couple, even if Angie doesn't). But then again, the "4th hand" may turn out to belong to Joe's best mate Ben instead - which would blow that theory out of the water!
