Every 10 years, Time Out carries out a poll on the top 100 British films. The results of the latest poll were recently released. I'm interested to see that Michael Powell, my favourite director, has 5 films in the top 20 including his A Canterbury Tale at 17 which is not among his better known films, but is a strong contender for my favourite film of all time.

I'm pleased to see that you appreciate A Canterbury Tale as much as I do as, superificially, it can seem a silly storyline, but when you think about it, there is much more to the film than that.

I know you are not a fan of 2001, but I wondered if you had ever seen it at the cinema or just on a television screen. This is a film which should only be seen on a big screen as otherwise it is almost pointless seeing it.

And if you haven't seen The Red Shoes, I would put it on your list of films to see. If Michael Powell was working now, it would have been him who made Black Swan.

The most glaring omission to me from Time Out's list is the Laurence Olivier version of Henry V.
El Loro
There is no point in me going to watch 2001 at the cinema as it will bore me like the first time, Its just not the kind of film i enjoy

The Red Shoes is on my lovefilm rental queue

I havent seen that Laurence Olivia film
