Hi, all:

Just wanted to let you know that, in the next few days, we'll be changing this site to a secure site (https, as browsers are starting to issue warnings about insecure sites.

This MAY mean that some of images or attachments you've uploaded to the site may not display properly, but I think we'll be able to fix that--I'm just not sure, yet.

I'll keep you posted on this thread, and let you know if it will help for you to report broken images as you come across them.

Hi, Baz!

I've just replied to both PMs...no tinkering from us, and I tested the iPad with no issues.

Is anyone else besides Moonie and Baz having trouble?

Oh ok...thanks Lori ....well it seems ok right now ....I rebooted everything ...but seems strange that Moonie had exactly same problem ....and yet his was ok on his laptop

Yes, that sounds very specific to me. I'm updating to the newest iOS, and then I'll report back via the PMs.

I'm just going to throw salt over my left shoulder and hope that works.

all to do with the left side being called sinister and connected with the devil supposedly looking over one's left shoulder.

That was actually a guess on my part.

What happens if I throw it over my right shoulder, instead?

I wouldn't try that, it could cause a tear in the fabric of time leading to the destruction of the universe

Cute dogs, Saint.

Baz, I don't mean that anything you were uploading when you got error messages while I was doing the SSL thing. I  mean that, in general, if you guys have uploaded an image in a post that comes from a non-https site, you may see  a message like this in your browser: Screen Shot 2017-10-05 at 3.00.00 PM

Not necessarily when you upload it, but at any time after, when you access the site.

The images that Saint uploaded were from https sites, so they won't generate any error messages.

With the Firefox browser for those pages which has no non-https images the address bar shows a green padlock before the address. If the page does contain a non-https image, there's a grey padlock with an amber warning triangle. If you click on that grey padlock you will see the message that Lori has shown above.

With IE 11, for a page with no non-https images, there's a grey padlock at the far right end of the address bar. For pages with a non-https image, no padlock is shown.

I aasume that if you were to embed a video from a non-https site, it would be the same as for an image from a non-https site. However the majority of embedded vdeos are Youtube ones and Youtube is an https site so those don't result in a warning message.

For those people who can add attachments, the attachment won't result in a warning message as the attached image is now on this site.

Including a link to a non-https site in a post does not seem to result in a warning message.

I hope I'm correct with what I've said above but that seems to be the case with what I'm finding on looking at various pages here.

By the way, in Lori's post above she mentions that she was doing the SSL thing. In a few words, for a website to be able to be HTTPS it has to have a SSL certificate.

For a much longer and very technical explanation you can have a look at:

Nice explanation. Didn’t understand it, bar the odd bits and dabs but if it help, I am all for that

@El Loro Thanks El ...quick question...when I went and looked at that link it told me there was an app.....which when I checked , there was.....but do you know if the app is just for the Social Strata help site ....or can we access this site through it? I know there used to be a Gaga app ...which was great....but they shut it down a few years ago .

@Baz I think you are referring to the link there which is to branded mobile apps - that's for administrators of sites rather than us and I think is intended for those adminisrators who want to promote their site on a commercial basis, ie they want to advertise.

I think the Gaga app you are referring to was closed as when the site went over to a "responsive" site (one which automatically adjusts depending on if you are using a computer or a tablet or a mobile phone) there was no further need for the app.

If I'm mistaken about this, Lori would know what's what.

We were cross-posting.

Yes, the Gaga app was closed when Hoop.la was made "responsive", and the apps are specifically branded for individual sites. It's not so much for advertising, but for people who just want the app to be specific to their community, and the main benefit to it (as far as I can see) is that it allows for push notifications (which I get on the SS app every time there is a new post and a post to a support topic I am following.)
