I am aware of the current problems with people on IE unable to quote from other postings. However this is on a different matter. I use Firefox. Before the recent change, to quote I highlighted the text to quote, then scroll up to the top or down to the bottom, clicked on Post Reply and there was the quoted text.

This no longer works. As a result, I now need to do the following. Having seen text I wish to quote, I first need to scroll up or down to click on Post Reply to open the reply box. Then I have to scroll back to the text I wish to quote and highlight that. Then I have to scroll back to the reply box, and click on the Quote icon.

So instead of one scrolling movement, I need to do three. Alternatively having opened the reply box, I need to use my pointer to drag the box up or down to where I wish to quote from.

I do not know if this is just a glitch which will be corrected, or if this is permanent. If this is permanent, would it be possible to provide a reply option by each reply as others have suggested? Alternatively, would it be possible to make the menu on the right hand side float rather than fixed, so that it was visible on the right wherever you were on the screen? This would mean that the first item Add Reply would be conveniently placed.

As you know, there are problems with either not being able to quote in replies at all, or having to open the reply box, then scroll back to the text you want to quote and highlight, then scroll back to the reply box and click on the quote icon, which can be a bit of a hassle. I thought I would ask on the Social Strata help forum pages what was being done and I have had a reply from Brian Lenz, one of their software engineers.

This is a copy of his reply:

I can't give any promises as far as a date of the next release, but I would anticipate it to be some time in the next month or two.

There won't be any highlighting of text in the new model.  Instead, you'll essentially be clicking a flag/checkbox of some sort next to each post to indicate that you want to quote it.  You will be able to select multiple messages, and then when you click reply, it will include all of the text from all of those messages.

We will likely also give some kind of "quick quote reply" next to each reply for the scenario where you just want to quote a single reply.

In any event, the feature has not yet been implemented, so this is just a high level overview of how we're anticipating things will work.  It is by no means a promise to implement the feature as described here since we may need to alter the design a bit during implementation as we discover issues, etc.

Hopefully that gives you a clear idea of where we're going with the feature.

I also asked him if there would in the meantime a quick fix for those using IE and other browsers who can't quote at all, before this next release. Unfortunately they won't be doing this. So I will repeat my own tip which I have previously posted.

My temporary quick fix is to highlight the text to quote, press Ctrl-C, go to the reply box, type something like "Quote from " user name, then press Ctrl-V. Obviously this appears as ordinary reply text, but it's better than nothing.

Rosgirl, I'm another member like you, so I don't know how you de-reg. I think you can send a PM (Dialog) probably to Lori asking her to arrange this. I think there was a bug at one time that anyone who deregistered, threads which they had created were accidentally being deleted as a result. You may want to check with Lori if this bug has been corrected. I think it was just threads which you had created rather than any which you had posted to.

brisket, I did see on the Social Strata technical forum that the next update is expected to be rolled out in the week starting 7 February. As another user I have no knowledge as to what will be included in this update, but I am hoping that the proposed changes to the quoting function will be in this. The only info I have is as per my post of 16 December as above.

If Seattle are looking in, perhaps they could give us some details as to what to expect.
