I've put this in the Lounge as if I put it is the film section, not many people will see it.

Darren Aronfosky's film The Fountain is getting it's Freeview premiere tomorrow (Monday Film4 at 10.50 pm). This is a highly original film and is worth watching if you want something different from the usual Hollywood film. Although it stars High Jackman and can be regarded as fantasy/science-fiction, it is far removed from the likes of X-Men.

The structure of the film is complex with three separate stories in different periods of time intercut. It's a bit like a jigsaw puzzle and it is only towards the end of the film that you start to get some understanding - so be patient.

It would be interesting if anybody who watches this film or has seen it before gives a rating say on a scale of 1 to 10. I have a feeling that people will find this to be either unintelligible pretentious rubbish or one of the most remarkable films ever made.

And can anyone answer this. Why is the film called The Fountain? I think it should be called The Tree of Life.

When you have seen the film you may realise why I think the film should be called The Tree of Life rather than The Fountain.

If you read the story of the garden of Eden in Genesis, you would see that besides the tree of knowledge (which is the one with the apple that Eve picked), there was also the tree of life. The punishment for Adam and Eve for having eaten the apple of knowledge was to be driven out of the garden. The entrance to the garden was then barred so that they could no longer access the garden to the tree of life, and thus death became inevitable to us all.
