It is the way politicians operate, the more they talk about doing something the less need there is to actually do anything, the issue of transparency is the same, they don't really want someone watching them with their snouts trough deep.

Either way I think Labour will be out and another puppet installed, like in the U.s. the new puppet will carry on business as usual but will have a better PR style.

If the Inalnd Revenue think that any MP has been involved in property speculation like systematically buying a property, doing it up, selling it, and repeating this on a regular basis, if the MP is found not to have been properly living in the property but just claiming they have to avoid capital gains tax, then the Revenue can claim that the MP is trading in property and get the whole profit taxed.

I was shocked by what Stephen Fry had to say about it not being important, and that journalists are just as bad.

If journalists (or any other corporate employee) fiddle their expenses, their news organisation/paper (corporation) foots the bill.

If an MP fiddles their expenses, the tax payer foots the bill.

A bit different methinks!

Whilst I take great pleasure in anything that instills an element of personal responsibility in any member of the voting public such as they get off their fat arses and actually VOTE I have to say that although this expenses debacle is hideous it is small fry - no pun intended - in the big scheme of feck ups.

LOL at the Daily Telegraph though ... deja vu of Geoffrey Howe. Big Grin

Do have a read sometime of the alternative press. Private Eye has done some very revealing research on the tax affairs of certain newspaper proprietors. You may come to the conclusion that those of us who do pay tax are subsidising the press.

I love the way that when the story first broke, the Torygraph was laying into Labour politicians for mundane stuff like dog food, Prescott's bog seats and, yes, a little creativity with Capital Gains Tax.

Cut to the Tories and it's all tennis courts, swimming pools and (my personal favourite) sorting the moat.

Haven't heard much about the LibDems yet. Presumably it will be secret military installations, weapons and submarines Ninja
