At least you got the condom talk AND PAID HEED...right? Eeker

We got the Condom talks, but the School should have done more to educate us Mad.

Why the school? No disrespect to you but your parents (or whoever raised you) is far more responsible for you and how you learn than the education system. IMO.

True Nod, but I would be so embarrased to chat to them I would rather speak to someone who I didn't know about that kind of thing they have told me stuff though Smiler.

Either that or it's creepy coz it's your teacher Glance

I feel it's up to the parents to teach them things like that. It's a very personal subject and any parents who don't feel they could talk about sex maybe should have thought twice about having sex Wink

I remember just sniggering through those lessons and that was 25 yrs ago Eeker My son walked out mortified and my daughter told me it was all rubbish.. sperm and egg situation.

I can freely discuss sex with mine, (well, my 17 yr old just tell me to stfu with a big red face) but I know he has a pocket full of condoms. My big daughter informs me that she does get attention but she wants to earn money not mess with boys *all things crossed and hope they listen to me) *

Embarassed only lasts a few minutes Smiler, I bet your parents would feel a swell of pride if you confided in them.

Hey, us mouldies were kids too y'know Razzer we went through the same angst.

At least you've made the effort to talk to them. You're not expecting a school teacher to do it for you. That bugs me when parents expect teachers to do everything for them. Teach them manners, teach them about sex, teach them right from wrong etc. I suppose though that if the kid does go off the rails they can blame the teacher Roll Eyes

I had to tell mine about some things because I got hounded with questions when they found tampons in the bathroom. Big Grin

I totally agree with Darlo on this (I guessing me and Darlo are of similar ages) and I too had very little sex education in school, lucky for me my mum was very easy to approach but Im guessing alot of my mates mum's wasnt as so many of them have kids and are now not even with the babies fathers anymore. I find it hard in this day and age with contraception so readily available and alot of it FREE to understand how so many girls get caught and cant see how some think of it as their only escape from there life when college education is free. Personally I always wanted to have MY life first before I settle down and have a family.

Don't knock it, Queenie - if he's racking up the post count, he's not gonna be responsible for adding to the subject matter of the thread!

You know I'm just kidding, darlo! You really kept the forum going sometimes when it was on it's ass.

After reading this post I started thinking....Kids nowadays know more about 'Sex' and precaussions are readily available and advertised, more than when I was young...........

I think it might be something to do with people not getting 'married' today....when I was young, Babies went hand in hand with marriage...of course people had Sex before marriage and lived together before marriage.

Perhaps young girls don't think 'marriage' is on the cards anymore so don't worry as much about getting pregnant....

Just a thought.....

Rightly or wrongly it was deemed shameful to get pregnant if you weren't married. Obviously those attitudes have changed somewhat and rightly so but ................FGS - kids get pregnant after one night stands nowadays ............sometimes aren't even sure who the father is. That's not right IMO. Contraceptionsex education is so much more readily available these days - it really and truly beats me why they just dont bother (sexually transmitted diseases aside)..........seems to me that fear of shame was a far, far better precaution.

I wouldn't want a return to the old days but purleeeeeeeeeeeese - all these babies being born to single 'children' I shudder to think how a lot of them are bought up.

Babies should be planned for and wanted IMO.

I wish I had planned my little one but circumstances were that she was a total accident Frowner

I would not change her for the world now but I admit to feel dread when I saw the pregnancy test change.

She is my whole world now and I would hope even though we didn't plan her that she is as well brought up as it's possible to be Smiler

That's so lovely and of course there will be accidents (my third was and I adore her) ....the thing is - you are in a relationship and love your daughter dearly. It's not the same as a fourteen/fifteen year old going out and having un protected sex and then claiming ignorance.

I know it's not always the case but it is a lot of the time.

Some also don't realise until it hits them how hard it is. I know some who also when they see their friends going out and having fun clubbing etc they get upset and wish they was doing it but they made their choice. There really needs to be more done. Also more needs to be done for teen dads more Sex Education in schools wouldn't go amiss either should be compulsary for teens which in some schools it isn't.

i aggree with you even though i had 2 kids at 16!! i used 2 go into schools 2 talk 2 teenagers about how hard it is 2 be a parent. I had 2 fight tooth and nail 2 keep my 2 older kids, I worked and cared 4 them on my own and its was so hard

Absoloutely ...................with all the sex education and TV coverage in soaps etc ....................surely to God there can't be many teens who dont know how to have safe sex? They simply can't be bothered and to hell with the cosequences. Years ago there were only a fraction of unwanted teenage pregnancies and the sex education/general sexual awareness was nothing like it is today. It's apathy and just stupidity ...........you can't blame it on lack of awareness of contraception etc.

Lucky old you huh! Roll Eyes

Not lucky really ............just got a brain. Why would any teenager choose to have a child without a partner and no means of support. Purleeeeeeeeeeese dont say that they were unlucky ...............they know what they're doing - all kids know about contraception and safe sex ......if not ...................are they living in a bubble?

Kids/teenagers don't think about consequences. I don't believe that there are much more teenage pregnancies now than there was years ago. Someone will probably come on with statistics to prove me wrong though. There always has been and there always will be girls who for one reason or another get pregnant. It's nothing to do with education, wealth etc. I think a lot of it is to do with boredom, loneliness, drink, drugs, peer pressure....I could go on.
