We have a Shark steamer and they are good but we still use chemicals to lift more dirt.

It was only £79 and pretty good - better than a mop any day.

£300+ seems a lot for any steamer unless you need extra heavy duty. It should be exceptional for that amount.

Hope that helps

Just ensure that you have room in the cupboard where you store the bread maker, ice cream maker, pasta maker, food processor, George Forman grill etc etc

Fortunately I have none of the above so there is plenty of room Rexi

It is a lot Saint, but I want to cut down on chemicals and the research I have done so far seems to suggest (a bit like you) that tou can cut down on them.

A heavier duty one should allow for more prolonged cleaning and with the higher bar more indepth cleaning.

I am pretty much convinced about buying one now. Spent a bit more time reading about them last night.

I steam our floors - for ages

The heat is incredible

And then I get a bit of paper with a bit of bleach based cleaner

Guess what?

Lots more dirt comes off EVERY time

Steam is good but not the whole answer

Never had one that lived up to the promise.

Same goes for me, I recently tried a baz and it just didn't impress me- I took it back! I'll be sticking with good old cleaning products in future

The problem with Karcher products that are made for domestic use, they are not built for repair, and if you can get them repaired it can be quite expensive.

This is one thing I can't get a handle on, how reliable they are. I have been looking at the Polti range too which seem to be good but finding user experience is hard.

What are yoiu going to be mainly using it for?  I have the H20 X5, which I use mainly for floors, and it's brilliant,  it does have all of the other attachments as well.

Who makes your model?

I have been quite interested in the all round capabilities really. I like the idea of using steam to clean toilet/bathroom and all my wood / ceramic floors. Obviously the benefits of not using chemicals on windows is clear - no pun intended. But I would like to switch to using it say twice a month for a good clean and more standard cleaning in between. I also have a rental property that will need a good cleaning soon.  The Polti allows you to put a small amount of disinfectant in the water reservoir.

Maybe I need to look more industrial.

I have a Polti. Mr Fluffy Thing got it for me. He says it was one of the more expensive models. I haven't had it long. All I've done so far are the hard floors and some mirrors. It's quite efficient and the mirrors did seem to stay cleaner for a bit longer than with traditional glass cleaners.

I have been swayed to buy the Polti and filling in the delivery instructions as we 'speak'.

I also have a Kärcher (pronounced Kercher) power washer that I use outdoors. It's very good too.

It's something like this, but came with more accessories.

It's body has 4 wheels, so it can lie down and be trundled along like cylinder vacuum.

I only need an indoor cleaner as I live in a Penthouse apartment

But I will see how this fares and if it lives up to it's billing and performs how I expect, then I can see me buying more products in the future.

I've purposely not cleaned my toilet for 3 years to see how good this cleaner works.
