At the same time Steven Moffat is leaving as the person in charge of the series. He's replaced by Chris Chibnall who has written for the series and also Torchwood. Chibnall also created Broadchurch and wrote some of the episodes.

Well, I'm gutted.   BUT... I was gutted when Chris went, and when David went and when Matt went - so long as they don't try to stick us with Catherine Tate I'm sure it'll all be fine.

Alexander Vhalos was Phillipe, Duke of Orleans in Versailles and Mordred in Merlin.

I had no idea who Ben Whishaw was.. but I've Googled.  He'd do very nicely.

Helena Bonham Carter would have been good - but she's too like the character of 'Missy'      Not Miranda Hart.. please.

Some pretty strange odds there - Tilda Swinton?  Really?

I think the list of possible replacements is rather speculative. As Kaffs say, Tilda Swinton would be a surprising choice.

And then there's Eddie Redmaybe. That's what the Independent article said. Is that a hint that the list may be fake news? Or is that just a typo ?

Hugh Grant , Damien Lewis or Idris Elba would do nicely for me

I'm not sure they would be punching. Elba has done TV work before. In America bigger names than Elba do TV.

I couldn't take to Peter Capaldi as the Doctor, so I'm happy to see him go. Hopefully, I'll like whoever takes over, then I might be able to start watching again.

Ben Whishaw is being touted heavily.

I like the idea of Richard Ayoade. He would certainly be able to pull off the humour.

I never like PC tbh...
