Right I went to this antenatal group last Friday, so it's fresh in my mind Big Grin We were told that you shouldn't bother going to hospital until you have regular (e.g. 10 minute apart) contractions. They said if they were irregular you were still in the early stages. MIdwife also said that your waters don't necessarily break and you may not get any other sign either. She said you may expirience horrible back ache and a funny tum (rushing to the loo).

That's what we were told - hope that helps. If you are getting near, hope it all goes smoothly Hug

Laugh

i dont know anyone who has had one of them (or seen it i should say)

Oh i had it with both of mine. eeewwwww!! lol but after it neither baby emerged for at least 24 hours after that, so not a sign of imminent arrival i don't think. All labours are different, my waters didn't break untill about 20 mins before the birth with both ( had an awful experience with 2nd, they kept leaving me cos my waters hadn't broke even though i could feel the baby's head!!! bloody idiots! might as well have stayed at home and delivered it myself for all the help they were. ) I know everyone says it but honestly you'll know............mostly cos it'l be really f******* painfull, my advice is to get yourself to hosp before it gets unbearable so you'll have plenty of time for a nice relaxing epidural. Don't listen to all the old claptrap about side effects blah blah blah, it's the best thing ever invented!!

And don't worry you'll be absolutely fine. Hug

happened to me last time too. i really wanted to push and could feel his head coming down...stupid bint told me off for wanting to push saying i need to wait for waters to break. then she decided to check how dialiated i was and was shocked to feel a head Laugh so broke my waters for me. he was in distressed cos he wanted to come out and i was told to fight it for about 30 mins or so Angry

had a few choice words for that midwife!! i mean she left me for over 30 mins before claiming i wasn't ready to push Roll Eyes

thing is a baby can be born with the sac round there head like a space man...doesn't do any harm so why they make you wait i dont know....makes it easier for them i spose

See, that's what I want to ask - if you feel like you should be pushing, surely that's what you should do? I keep hearing people saying the same sort of thing that they were told to hang on!

well, it depends how far dialated you are, need to be a certain amount to push, but can feel need to push ( second stage of labour) before dialated enough...midwife can tell but this one argued i wasn't ready without checking.

I'm definitely getting nervous now! I don't feel ready at all. I don't know why but I had it in my head that I would be well overdue, so when the consultant said she wanted to try and start me off early I was really shocked. I don't think you'll ever feel ready though. What's your due date again?
