I should know number 3 cos I watched a programme about it last night .....but I don’t think it was Thomas Crapper

I know the answer but the first person who invented didn't patent it...so I think we may have to give both answers and explain why...you're right Baz it wasn't Thomas Crapper

18....first computer ?

Actually, I think that's sort-of correct.

I'm pretty sure it's a mechanical calculating machine - i.e. the older, mechanical equivalent of a pocket calculator. However there were a lot of different versions, so I don't know if that would be an adequate answer...

I think this is going to be a really difficult one, as the invention of a lot of these is disputed.

For the record; Thomas Crapper didn't invent the flush toilet, but he did patent a lot of improvements - including the ballcock. Over to you, Stephen...

[BTW: Wiki disagrees with Stephen as to the Chinese being the first to invent it, with the ancient Orcadians going back over 5000 years!

17 ...washing machine ?

Yes - it's an old Maytag Wringer Washer. Recognised it's purpose straight away (the wringer on top's the giveaway), but again not sure how much detail we require...

Yes that was the give away Eugene

I don't know what answer will be acceptable  Eugene.  Sir John Harington was the first to invent a flushing loo but never patented it.  Alexander Cumming  patented the flushing loo a couple of hundred years later...it's a complicated question indeed.
