putting this in here as well as the other thread

CHECK what PAYPAL or your DEBIT/CREDIT/ card CHARGES for overseas purchases, there is usually a minimum fee on top of the purchase..

Every other forum provider offers editing and PM'ing as standard on their free forum versions..  even FB pm'ing is free too

No!!!    no-ones saying yay   so stay where you are

edit facility is there for a limited time on each post  so you can keep posting

quote from edited OP

If you want to edit a posting you still can provided it's within the grace period (I think that's an hour or so). After the grace period has ended you cannot edit a posting without being a VIP.

ah thanks Mrs H that's ok then. .I usually edit my post then submit, then spot more errors so edit and submit and on and on til I've found them all and corrected my sentences too..

I have no idea why I can't 'see' them in the reply box, some obvious ones I can but others I miss

Still think people should check just how much it will cost them to fork out $25 on their cards or paypal ..that is very important..

Obviously am not doing it myself. . I prefer to spend any extra I have on a nice bit of steak once in a blue moon [beef is a rarity in my house]  not the ability to PM someone..

oooooh  maybe I could become a Mod. . would I get it for free then?

I'm still not happy with the security of the upgrade pay page. There are no details of the IT security company monitoring it like on most pay pages. Hacking is a big problem nowadays. I'd happily pay if there was a pay pal option.

Another option to keep the site funded would be the following. One site I go on, the server and site upkeep costs are met by regular users through voluntary donations. Theres a graphic showing the % of the target raised say per quarter and a pay pal button link.

That could keep the site going and not put off potential new members?

Noseyrosie, you have raised two issues which need to be dealt with by the administrators. I have flagged this up for their attention.

I am aware that Social Strata/Hoop.la deal with thousands of social media websites and is experienced at dealing with credit and debit card payments. I am also aware that the payment site address starts with https rather than http which indicates that it is a secure site.

Hello all... all order/payment pages are delivered via SSL encryption (which is the standard for all such transactions)  and all payments are handled and managed by us- Social Strata- a company that has been in business over 15 years and lists major customers like The Discovery Channel, Mattel, Scripps Network (HGTV), and thousands more.

As for alternate "funding mechanisms", that is not something we will consider.  The mechanism we have in place now is the one we are moving forward with.

Thank you for your feedback.

For those of you thinking about becoming a VIP and are concerned about what you would be charged I have found this consumer website article looking at what tends to get charged by credit card companies:

http://www.creditchoices.co.uk...;_$ja=cgid:656492389

I think the relevant secion is Loading fees. It says the exchange rate used is standard across all credit cards. It says there's also a loading fee of typically 2.75% so on $25, which is about ÂĢ16, that would be 44p. (Some charge 2.99% which would be 48p).

Using debit cards would be more expensive than credit cards - typical rates seem to be between ÂĢ1 and ÂĢ1.50 but that varies by bank.

Some banks may charge more, some don't charge anything, but the figures I've shown are an indication as to what to expect. Check with your bank/credit card company to confirm what you would get charged if you have any doubts.

(Fees charged for drawing out cash when abroad are often higher so are not a reliable guide).

Below is actually the most relevant section in that link but only applies to Debit cards... . You'd need to check with your credit card company to find out what their fee and minimum charge is for overseas spending.  Loading fees are not charged separately they are calculated as part of the exchange rate.

Spending fees

These apply to debit cards and are flat-rate charges that some banks put on foreign transactions.

Lloyds TSB currently charges ÂĢ1 per transaction, except on its Platinum and Premier debit cards, Royal Bank of Scotland and Natwest charge ÂĢ1.25, and Halifax charges ÂĢ1.50 a pop.

You can avoid these charges by using a Nationwide debit card, which only has a 1% charge for non-sterling transactions outside Europe, while the Santander Zero current account has no fees.

Try this link for more overseas buying via debit/credit cards info

it's not really the kind of tone that makes one feel considered or valued.
