He's really upset about it.  The guy he has to sack has been with the company for 30 years and started there straight from school. He was doing really well but his life seems to have fallen apart over the last 12 months or so and he now has a serious drink problem and keeps turning up drunk or not turning up at all. His wife left him last year because she couldn't cope with his behaviour. He's had 3 warnings and the company have offered to get him into some sort of therapy but he won't acknowledge he has a problem. At his last formal warning he said he was going to pull himself together because the job was the only thing he has left. He said if he lost his job he might as well chuck himself off a bridge and end it all. It's not actually OH that should be doing the deed but the guy who should be doing it isn't going to be at work tomorrow so hubby's been lumbered with the dirty work. He's gone to bed now and I can hear him tossing and turning in his sleep because he feels so bad about it.

What an absoloutely horrible position to be in. Dont really know what to say .....................very sad that the guy has let drink take over and ruin his life. The thing is - I've heard it said that sometimes you have to reach rock bottom before realising that there's a [problem. I really hope he seeks help .........meanwhile - I really feel for your OH - no wonder he's tossing and turning. - who'd want to be the one to do that?

Thing is, if he did do something stupid because of this then my OH is going to feel responsible, and he really isn't. It's just horrible.
I can imagine how he feels but ..............he knows it's not him - it's the fat cats who dictate and will not dirty their hands. We run a small business and my OH has to do things he doesn't like sometimes but ......he'd never pass the buck - I really feel for your OH. but .............you have to do what you gotta do.

Thanks peeps.  I know he'll be ok, it's just not something he's had to do before. I don't think it would have been so bad if it had been someone else he had to let go, it's just this guys back story and circumstances that makes it so hard for him. I don't suppose it's helping that it's so near to Christmas either. I've not heard from him yet so I think he must be still going through the process.

Perhaps this will be the wake up call he needs ...... It's a pitty it's come to this but looking by what you have said, the company have treated him very fairly ....... I don't envy your hubby at all Queen, he has my every sympathy  .... It seems almost like kicking the dog when it is already down .... but hopefully, some good may come of it eventually.

I didn't think of that Heartache.   Hubby's home so can't do much about it now. By the sounds of it though he was expecting it and he goes AWOL all the time, that's part of the problem. I hope he's ok, poor man. I don't know what's caused it but he's obviously got some demons. He really has lost everything now. Wife, kids, job, and it sounds like he could lose his home because he won't be able to afford to make payments.
