My boss used to massively into his wine. We were once discussing it and he obviously realised I'm not a fan, having only found one wine I could tolerate. He did however say one thing that made me thing he is not a wine snob and probably just an appreciator.
He said: "There are only two types of wine, those you like and those you don't."
Price for him was irrelevant.
