Well I remember being quite excited by a visit of the Queen Mother when I was about 5...even have the newspaper clipping somewhere in a box

The cost of the Royals is high when you take protection into account, but when you look at how much they bring to this country via tourism & historical matters etc then I think we're pretty much quids in. though maybe not this past 12 months.

I would have thought that those charities that have Royals as patrons would do quite well? or at least no worse than those who are patroned by celebrities...but then I have quite negative feelings re charities.......especially where the funding they get is spent

I agree with all that Slim

Meanwhile Wills and Kate being reported daily doing zoom calls and all that's perceived as good. The Royal Family is one big stage-managed con. And the press and sections of the media have free licence to do what they like.

Harry was useful when he was the army pin-up boy.

The country's effed everywhere you look.

I've posted this link before, but I've noticed sections of it appearing on Twitter today, so I think it's worth reposting one last time as hard evidence of how the UK Press have consistently treated Kate and Meghan differently. I think it just about passes as on-topic too, as the press remain one of my major, current, annoyances!

Meghan Markle And Prince Harry UK Royal Reporters Coverage Compared To Kate Middleton And Prince William (buzzfeednews.com)

Also; I see that those photos of Harry in a Nazi uniform have suddenly made a reappearance for some reason.   It may therefore be worth mentioning that William was also at that party (he went in a lion costume), but the press chose not to question the wisdom of him attending a party with a "Colonial and Native" theme ( ), nor why he (or anyone else for that matter) didn't have a word in his younger brother's ear beforehand...

I think we can all agree that the press are class A scumbags......... that link puts me in mind of the different ways Diana & Fergie were portrayed .....is lucky we don't really take any notice isn't it

Unfortunately there are many who do...

I don't remember Harry's error of fancy dress......I do know he had a reputation of being a bit of a rebel a while back. Have only recently began watching the news again cos of the covid...

My beef was not the interview being broadcast, but that it has become a dog with a bone....never letting go...it's everywhere... I didn't watch it and have no interest whatsoever...I want to see proper news! ...Aljazeera is pretty good at world goings on

The best documentary I've ever seen was on there years ago. It was about oud. More valuable than gold.

A NEW PHONE SCAM ! This morning I had a call from a fraud office  to say that they had noticed that ÂĢ600 had been transferred overseas from my account ! As I check my account a couple of times each day I knew it was a scam, but if someone only deals with paper statements then I can imagine them getting duped into giving away details ....barsteward.

And I have just this minute had an Amazon one !

I got a "fraud office" call this morning too. I'm assuming it was the same, but I realized it was a scam and slammed the phone down PDQ!

Bottom line: if there really is a problem, official bodies won't contact you like that, and certainly not by automated calls...

When my Dad had a nuisance call from someone claiming to be from his bank....he was advised by the bank itself to unplug the phone at the wall for 2 mins as these scammers have a way of staying online and collecting info from your outbound calls...don't ask me how?

Generally...if it is a scam or an automated call...they won't go onto answerphone ..

I know that if it's a landline call, both sides need to hang-up to drop the call properly. The bank's advice to you father was correct in so far as I've experienced this myself several times: as soon as I realized I was on the receiving end of an automated call, I put the phone down. After a few seconds I picked it up again to check I was now getting the dial tone, but instead I could still hear the recorded message!   I think I disconnected the phone fully on one occasion, but usually I just leave it down for 5-10 minutes - although make sure you can hear the dial tone before using again!

There's a known scam where the conman will call you pretending to be a bank or whatever, tell you there's a problem with your account and advise you to end the call and phone your local branch. However while you hang-up, they stay online! When you then try to call your branch, they're still on the call: they can fake a ringtone, and then pretend to be bank staff on the other end of the line... In theory, this no longer works on modern phone networks (and it won't work at all on a mobile phone, which connects to the public network in a different way), but it's still best to be careful...

"Hello this is BT about you internet connection" - which we don't have

Told him I didn't believe he was genuine and asked if he was Muslim as he had an Indian accent. He asked me why I wanted to know. Asked him what the Koran said about stealing from people.

He asked me if I was Christian which I said I suppose I was and he said,

"I don't have to answer your questions you dirty f*#*ng Christian"
