Jóhann Jóhannsson: Award-winning Icelandic composer dies aged 48

This is a very personal one for me and quite shocked to say the least.

I have been a purchaser/listener and follower of his work for many years (since he appeared on the 4AD label), in fact I had already planned to go out to pick up his latest soundtrack release tomorrow and would have been unaware of his passing unless I had read the news.

Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, who won a Golden Globe for his score to the film The Theory of Everything, has died aged 48, his manager says.

Mr Jóhannsson was found dead at his apartment in Berlin. The cause of death is not yet clear.

His music merged classical orchestral sounds with electronica. In addition to his film work, Mr Jóhannsson released several solo albums.

I spent most of Saturday in bed and it helped no end. I feel by Monday I should be back to normal.

How's yours?

Ditto , yes mine peaked yesterday ...felt dreadful .....still washed out , and have a cough , but much better today ...like you say I’m hoping it will be back to normal tomorrow  it was a nasty cold though, eh

We must be following a similar pattern, I'm coughing today with sniffles but feel much better. Hope you are improving again today.

*passes Bazzy a 🥊 to hit back*

As it happens, I saw "The Mercy" last night.

It not exactly the cheeriest of movies anyway, but knowing that the soundtrack was one of Jóhannsson's last brought a lump to the throat.

(I believe his very last soundtrack was for "Mary Magdalene", which is released next month.)
