the upping the fault of the victim merely trivialises and lessens the actions and guilt of the abuser That stance always pisses me off and just highlights what i said earlier in jest
With respect, have you studied or researched domestic violence or mental or physical abuse, or experienced it to have the opinion you do?

Me too, for a long time. And spent years thinking the same as you, that the victim holds no responsibility. This isn't the kind of discussion to have in this thread or on this forum really. But I know exactly why you hold that opinion and I know it's not as black and white as people who haven't been down that road like to believe. I'm gonna leave it there, think it's best we agree to disagree on this one.

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree here too K.

I think all the Erin Pizzey stuff just feeds into the general misogyny and stereotypical "mouthy woman" stuff...if only woman knew their place, and all that.

Plus I think it just kicks woman when they are already down, leading to an even bigger loss of self esteem, hope...

I think Ms Pizzey lost the plot when she said men are gentle and woman are dangerous

Blimey, threads don't half take some funny turns on here

Leccy that isn't the angle I'm coming from at all. It's nothing to do with mouthy women or deserving it or anything like that, it's from a different perspective entirely. I'm not defending abusers in any shape, way or form. I wouldn't and never will. But I do have an understanding of how people can get trapped into an abusive situation. It's a tough one, cos it's not something a victim can comprehend whilst in the middle of it or even for years afterwards, it's only when you really start to look at your part in it, how you ended up there, patterns, trends etc that you (well, I) get a much clearer vision. And to get to that level of understanding means having to go back over a load of history, which isn't pleasant, but it's quite powerful stuff and is worth it. Everyone holds a different opinion I suppose. I just hold a different one today then I have done for the last 20 years. And ^^^ all that was me not getting back into it again

Ok, I get where you're coming from more now...

And yeah, a Dave thread in the height of BB season probably isn't the best place for  a subject like this...We need a serious threads bit

I think the tricky bit is, that's all a bit more in depth and academic...it's something that requires a bit of an understanding of psychology or behavioural theories. I wouldn't like to think any of our dodgier characters saw it and thought "see I was right, trappy woman need to shurrup"

I think he should turn in his Welsh passport for that.
Actually I do know of someone who panicked when faced with the Severn Bridge toll booths. Not because he didn't have his ÂĢ5.60 entry fee but because he thouht it was passport control.

And Ms Zeta Jones used to be 2 years younger than me. Now she's 6 years younger. Go figure.

As for Dave, I think pre damascene conversion he'd have been grand. His religious conversion has done him no favours. He cannot say "The Bible says homosexuality is wrong" then insist he is personally tolerant. He cannot have it both ways.
