Alright guys..this made my brain hurt last night when I was in the pub.

Three guys get a bill for their meal at a restaurant for £25.00. They each only have a £10.00 note. So they each give the waiter a tenner. He comes back with five £1 coins for change, they say keep two pounds as a tip and they each take a pound back. Now this means that they have each spent £9 right? they each put a tenner in and got £1.00 back. So altogether they spend 3 x £9.00 = £27.00 right? plus the £2 tip which the waiter took means £27.00 + £2 = £29.00....where has the mysterious £1 vanished to ? Mad

Have to say that was my conclusion, too, and they can't have each taken a pound back, as taking off the tip would have left £3 change to share.

They each spent £9 and got £1 change.

The trick is in the wording. The £2 tip wasPART of the £27, not in addition to it. Smiler

Approx. £8.33 for the meal and approx 67p for the tip.

Your question is incorrect. You are adding the £2 tip twice.

The £2 tip is already included in the £27 leaving the £3 which they each took £1 of Wink

*edit: fluffy beat me to it Big Grin
