Just watching this programme on Channel 4.

A chap from Romania has gone to the housing office to try and get accommodation for his wife and 5 kids. He explains that life is really hard in Romania. What I would love to genuinely understand is why if life is so hard do you go ahead and bring 5 children into the world, making life even harder as you have to now provide for an additional 5 people.

I'm watching too

I know some people may misinterpret my OP but I really would like to know what the thought processes are in making a family in terribly difficult hard time.

I wonder the same too EC

It's the same with the Syrian crisis. Clearly people have still been making babies for years despite the troubles in the country - I just don't get it.

My religious knowledge is quite poor Baz. Feel sorry for the kids. I'm not religious and it seems to me their religion is letting their kids down.

Aw man, sorry to hear that. One of my close friends was homeless before I knew him. Glad to say he manage to get off the streets, get a job, do  a degree and now has a nice girlfriend and house.

Poland's RC (quite famously so: Pope John Paul II was of course Polish, and the recent movement of Poles to the UK actually caused church attendances in some areas to buck the trend and increase).

Slovenia and Croatia are also RC IIRC, but most of the rest of Eastern Europe (including Romania) is predominantly Eastern Orthodox.
