Johanna Konta was dominant against Margerita Gasparyran winning 6-1, 6-0. She's against Zhang Shuai later today in the third round. Zhang Shuai is seeded 33. Generally for Opens there are 32 seeds but MarkÃĐta VondrouÅĄovÃĄ who was seeded 17 had to withdraw due to an injury to her left wrist. Johanna Konta will be favourite to win this one.

Johanna Konta has withdrawn from tournaments in Asia due to "slight knee pain". She is expected to play in the Moscow tournament in the middle of October.

This means that she won't qualify for the season=ending WTA Championships (the top 8) but should qualify for the Elite Trophy (the next 11 + 1 wildcard) which takes place in the Chinese city of Zhuhai at the end of October.

Her first WTA semi-final since the Hobart Open in January 2018. (Although she got to the semi-final in Quebec 13 months ago, that tournament is no longer a WTA International event).

She'll be back in the top 100 when the next set of rankings are released.

She'll be around 87 in tomorrow's rankings. She may not be in any of the remaining tournaments this year as it's near the send of the season and would drop to around 90 if she decided not.

News today that Katie Boulter has made a complete recovery from a stress fracture of the back, and now feels "no pain whatsoever".

She intends to return playing by being in either the St Etienne tournament or the Hua Hin (Thailand) tournament in the week starting 4 November. Those are ITF tournaments rather than WTA ones. Sensible to resume at that level as it will take time to get back to the form she had been in.

Katie Boulter has returned to playing in tournaments but lost in the first round in Thailand. Lost 7-6 (7-2) 6-1.

She tweeted "“To get through the hardest journey we need take only one step at a time, but we must keep on stepping” which is a Chinese proverb.

There's a second tournament at the same venue next week and she's on the acceptance list for that one.

Heather Watson was beaten in the semi-final at Hobart. She's back in GB in tonight's A Question of Sport on BBC One then back to Australia for the Open where she's drawn against KristÃ―na PlÃÅĄkovÃĄ (ranked 62). (it's possible that AQOS is recorded )

In the Open, Johanna Konta is drawn against Ons Jabeur (ranked 85) and Katie Boulter has a tough draw against Elina Svitolina (ranked 6). Not yet known who Harriet Dart is against as the 16 qualifiers have yet to be allocated in the main draw.

Also announced today is that Johanna Konta won't play for GB in the Fed Cup due to her injury last year and is trying to prolong her tennis career. She's not retiring from the Fed Cup, just for this year. Katie Boulter may or may not be able to be in the Fed Cup. So a lot is going to be asked of Heather Watson and Harriet Dart in the Fed Cup which starts on 7 February with an away qualifier against Slovakia,
