First round of Wimbledon for British players:
Katie Boulter v Christina McHale
Naomi Broady v Irina-Camelia Begu
Johanna Konta (if playing) v Su-Wei Hsieh

Maryna Zavnevska v Heather Watson
Beatriz Haddad Maia v Laura Robson

Other than Johanna Konta. Heather Watson appears to have the highest chance of progress to the second round where she could be against Anastasija Sevastova with a current ranking of 19.

Heather Watson's fine run at the Aegon International in Eastbourne came to an end when she was beaten 6-2 3-6 7-5 by Caroline Wozniacki in the semi-finals.

The Briton, ranked 126 after a disappointing year, had her serve broken three times by the world number six in a nervous first set.

Watson, 25, fought back well to take the Dane to a third set.

But Wozniacki, the 2009 champion, won the key points in a tight decider to secure her place in Saturday's final.

Wozniacki, 26, will play third seed Karolina Pliskova for the title after the Czech had a walkover victory over Johanna Konta.

Top half of the first round draw play tomorrow so that includes the Katie Boulter match.

Today's matches:
Naomi Broady v Irina-Camelia Begu - Naomi lost 4-6, 2-6

Johanna Konta v Su-Wei Hsieh - Johanna won 6-2, 6-2 - opponent in second round not yet decided

Maryna Zavnevska v Heather Watson - Heather won 1-6, 6-7 (tb 5-7) - opponent in second round not yet decided

Beatriz Haddad Maia v Laura Robson - Laura lost 6-4, 6-2

As both Naomi Broady and Heather Watson lost in the first round at Wimbledon last year, it's certain that Naomi's ranking will stay much the same as at present and that Heather will get back into the top 100.

El Loro

Heather Watson off to an excellent start against Anastasija Sevastova winning the first set 6-0. Her main problem over the last year or so hasn't been one of ability but self belief in being able to close out a match - she's just been broken in the second set. She needs Johanna Konta's leaned skill of mindfulness - block out all the noise around her and negative thoughts.

The draw for the mixed doubles has been made. The Henri Kontinen/Heather Watson duo are in the second half of the draw which is just as well as that means they can't meet the number one seeds unless they get to the final. The number one seeds are Jaimie Murray/Martina Hingis.

A final between those two duos would be the crowd pleaser.

Victoria Azarenka beats Heather Watson 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 to get into the 4th round. Little time for Heather to recover as she's got the first round of the mixed double tater this afternoon.

It was all too noticeable that Victoria Azarenka grunts throughout her matches (and has been criticised for that) whereas Heather Watson doesn't.

Britain's Johanna Konta powered into the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first time with a convincing win over Maria Sakkari of Greece.

Konta, seeded sixth, won 6-4 6-1 on Court One, after earlier defeats for compatriots Heather Watson and Aljaz Bedene.

The 26-year-old is the first British woman since Laura Robson four years ago to make the last 16 at Wimbledon.

El Loro

Johanna Konta through to the quarter finals beating Caroline Garcia 7-6, 4-6, 6-4.

The quarter final could be the top match so far as she will be against either Victoria Azarenka or the number 2 seed Simona Halep. Unless that's on Centre Court, it could well be postponed until Wednesday as the forecast for tomorrow is bad for much of the afternoon and evening.

El Loro

The Johanna Konta/Simoma Halep quarter final is the third match on Centre Court today. It will probably be played today though with the roof closed as the forecast is bad for much of the afternoon and evening. Highly unlikely that all of today's scheduled matches will get played today and as the rain doesn't ease until about 7 tomorrow morning there may be a delay in getting the outer courts into a playable condition. Today's weather seems to be the worst of the championship but there is some rain forecast for a bit of Saturday afternoon.

Briton Johanna Konta's hopes of a first Wimbledon final ended with a straight-set semi-final defeat by five-time champion Venus Williams.

The 37-year-old American 10th seed played superbly to win 6-4 6-2 on Centre Court and set up a final against Spain's Garbine Muguruza.

Sixth seed Konta, 26, had hoped to become the first British woman in a Wimbledon singles final since 1977.

"It was very difficult for me to get a good foothold in the match," she said.

"The few opportunities that I did get, she did incredibly well to take them away from me.

"I don't think I did too much wrong out there. I think it was all credit to her."

Konta will at least break into the world's top five for the first time in the next rankings. (I calculate 4th if Garbine Muguruza wins or 5th if Venus Williams wins)

With bothe Jamie Murray/Martina Hingis and Henri Kontinen/Heather Watson winning their mixed doubles quarter finals yesterday, there's still the possibility of them meeting in the final. The semi finals are today and Henri Kontinen and Heather Watson have a tough match as they are against the number two seeds Bruno Soares and Elena Vesnina.

El Loro

With Jamie Murray/Martina Hingis and Henri Kontinen/Heather Watson winning their semi final matches yesterday both duos meet in the final tomorrow after the Men's final. Could be a very entertaining match.

The doubles rankings for them are Jamie Murray 5th, Martina Hingis 3rd, Henri Kontinen 1st, amd Heather Watson 81st. Although on paper that makes Murray/Hingis more likely to win, they haven't been paired before whereas Henri Kontinen and Heather Watson were champions last year and they do make a good pair. Note that as mixed doubles tend to be restricted to the grand slam events, the Olympics and the annual Hopman Cup, they do not get included for rankings purposes,

So will it be Martina Hingis

or Heather Watson

with beaming smiles tomorrow.

Nastase banned from official roles by the ITF until 2021 for his comments against Johanna Konta, Anne Keothavong and Serena Williams. Also won't be accredited for ITF events until 2019 and fined $10,000.
The ban will have limited effect as the ITF does the Fed Cup and the second tier women's events but not the grand slams, the ATP (men) tours and the WTA (women) tours.

Britain's Johanna Konta beat Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands to reach the third round at the Cincinnati Open.

World number seven Konta broke early on in the first to take the set 6-3 with a strong performance on her first serve.

Bertens, ranked 27th, broke Konta in the second set but the Briton found three breaks of her own to win 6-3 6-3.

Heather Watson is out of action with a shoulder injury she suffered in the Rogers Cup earlier this month where she had to withdraw during her first round match.

Britain's Johanna Konta won a hard-hitting contest against Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova to reach the Cincinnati Open quarter-finals.

The seventh seed won 6-3 6-4 to reach the last eight for the first time, setting up a rematch of her Wimbledon quarter-final against Simona Halep.

Konta, 26, did well to win a match that was far tougher than the straight-set scoreline suggests and break new ground in Cincinnati.

Five double-faults and a first-serve percentage of just 54% meant the Briton had to work harder than usual in her service games, with Cibulkova teeing off aggressively on the return.

Konta took the first set with two breaks of serve to one and looked to have the match well under control when she broke at the start of the second set.

However, Cibulkova refused to submit and had three break points for a 4-2 lead as a gripping set unfolded.

Konta clung on and grabbed her chance with a deep return on break point at 4-4 before serving out for a fine win, finishing with 24 winners to Cibulkova's 10.

El Loro

Britain's Johanna Konta was beaten 6-4 7-6 (7-1) by world number two Simona Halep to exit the Cincinnati Open in the quarter-finals.

Konta, who beat the Romanian in the last eight of Wimbledon, took an early lead in a first set that featured five breaks of serve before Halep triumphed.

The Romanian went 4-1 up in the second and, despite Konta saving five match points, took the match on a tie-break.

No posts recently as over the past few weeks Johanna Konta and Heather Watson  have been losing every match they've played and that includes the current China Open in Beijing. Not much impact on their rankings so far though Johanna Konta's confidence seems very low and her chances of getting into the season end play offs are diminishing.

El Loro

Johanna Konta won't be in the WTA finals having withdrawn with a foot injury from the Kremlin Cup. If she recovers in time she may be able to play in the WTA Elite Trophy at the end of the month. The WTA finals are for the top 8 which she cannot now be in, the Trophy is for the 11 players from 9th to 19th plus one wildcard.

After a few bleak weeks, better news at last.

Britain's Heather Watson is through to the the quarter-finals of the Luxembourg Open after beating Estonia's Anett Kontaveit in straight sets.

Watson, 25, beat the third seed 6-4 6-4 in one hour and 24 minutes.

The British number number two will play Elise Mertens in the last eight after Belgium's world number 38 saw off American Madison Brengle.

Naomi Broady is also in the tournament and her match against Sabine Lisicki has just started.

El Loro

Naomi Broady saved two match points and came back from a set down in a 4-6 7-5 6-3 win over former Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki.

It will be her first WTA Tour quarter-final since February 2016.

British number three Broady, who lost in the final round of qualifying but was given a lucky loser spot, won 10 of the last 13 games to secure victory.

She will face Olympic gold medallist Monica Puig of Puerto Rico in the last eight.

This is the best week for the British women since Wimbledon.

El Loro

British number one Johanna Konta has split from her coach Wim Fissette after less than a year together and will not play again this season.

The 26-year-old, who has a foot injury, did not qualify for this month's WTA Finals in Singapore and will not play in the WTA Elite Trophy the week after.

"Wim Fissette and I have mutually decided to end our working relationship," she said on Wednesday.

"My foot is improving but it is still advisable to rest it further."

She added: "Things ended very amicably and I wish Wim all the best. We've achieved a lot together and I want to thank him for all his patience, hard work and expertise.

Konta linked up with Belgian Fissette before the 2017 season after parting company with Esteban Carril at the end of 2016.

She will continue to work with hitting partner Andrew Fitzpatrick, strength and conditioning specialist Gill Myburgh, physio Milly Mirkovic and mental coach Elena Sosa.
