Mind you psychiatric nursing is a good number. You get to stand around all day and threaten patients with a stitched up violence accusation knowing if you retaliate you're getting sectioned.

NHS Mental Services [while it depends on the area. and many do their best at a v.difficult job ] can be frighteningly bad if you are under the care of the wrong individuals. I've heard similar experiences from patients before, sadly, and I absolutely believe you Velvet.  What an utter nightmare for you.

I repeatedly raised genuine concerns over my MH care - and asked for adult safeguarding information. The response was shocking - an attempted Mental Health Act Assessment for no other reason than to intimidate me, repeated false slurs in my notes, including that I was hostile and abusive. I recently learned by accident I'd been discharged [ no discharge letter or discussion ] for apparently refusing social contact with services. My phone records show the opposite, that I made many calls, over months, asking them to get in touch, which mostly went unreturned.

That's the tip of the iceberg, it gets worse believe it or not.

I can honestly say, that the most dishonest, callous, abuser-type individuals I have ever met in my life have been in my local MH team. Mixed in among them are caring, honest, truly good staff but sadly they're leaving the service, in my experience. The NHS has mutated into something far removed from what it once was, sadly. I'm no NHS-basher as I have friends who've worked in the NHS b.t.w.

It's worse in MH services, because staff /managers have absolute licence to engage in misconduct, knowing your MH status nullifies your credibility, often labelling you paranoid or psychotic, if you raise concerns.

I watched One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest and up to almost the end, I genuinely didn't think nurse Ratched was that bad! I've encountered staff who were worse.

So my heart goes out to you Velvet. It's an added frustration, that you're loathe to open up to online friends that you're under MH Services care. There's such stigma, and it scares people off. They think you're mad, bad and dangerous to know as the saying goes, and they give you a wide berth. All these media campaigns, haven't really changed things.

I applaud you for speaking up, Velvet.

Reading your post Rog - no words - just   It's an evil world now.  I have seen it change, anyone of my age has, and it hasn't changed for the better.

Thank you Squiggle . I'm old enough to have seen how it's changed too.

The same is happening elsewhere too, politicians, the police, army, even education and the charity sector, etc. [The rot starts at the top, recent events have been confirmation [ if we needed any ].

Rog and Velvet

My only experience of MH nurses are people I know personally. One works with teenagers and younger children in the community, and is a caring and committed MH nurse who tries her best to make a real difference in the young people's lives. The other works with adults in the community and is also committed and caring.

The standard of care you two have received is horrifying and the worst thing is, there must be more people who have suffered the same treatment as you.

Yes, its important to point this out Yogi . My very first CPN was similar, used to bring me little treats and even things from her house when she was having a clear out, and knew I didn't have much money at the time. She took steps under Adult Safeguarding procedures to make sure I was ok as I'm a recluse more or less. She even texted me Happy New Year a whole year after she'd left community work, to work nights at the local hospital. I sent her a bunch of flowers, it was such a small gesture in return for the help she gave me.

I really should do a separate thread. Its not often I open up about RL things but Velvet's post really touched a chord with me.

She sounds lovely, Rog, I'm glad you had someone like her on your side.
