Have we figured out Mario's accent yet?

Sorry if it's been done.

Initially I wondered if he'd been brought up bi-lingual in Italy and that had accounted for his accent, but he mentioned the other night he doesn't know his Father or his Italian family.

Then he said he was an Essex boy born and bred. Even accounting for being brought up to speak RP doesn't account for his pronunciation though. At times it sounds a bit "posh Edinburgh" (just the odd word)...Then others I think I'm hearing something Mid-Atlantic or even a hint of Canadian.

Do I need my ears syringing or what?

The other night I did think I heard something Irish in there too, funnily enough.

It definitely sounds like some kind of "mix" rather than a hint of something (if that makes sense)

He sounds a bit Norfolk/Suffolk, which may be similar to deep dark Essex.

I wouldn't know, cos I is in Lahndahn Essix, innit.

Agree with you all, he sounds like he is from Dublin.

However I also thought he sounded a bit west country

He definitely doesn't have a Sarfend accent....according to something I read he was actually born near Venice not Essex

It's a nice accent anyway, he speaks clearly and it's nice and gentle.

It is, and certain words sound Irish to me......He sounds like David Mitchell.

Not the same accent, but a quality, or tone that reminds me of him.......sort of council house version of Dave

I thought he sounded like he came from Norfolk. But he did say he picks up accents all the time and spending time with the people in the house would make him begin to sound like them all.

My husband is, what he calls himself, Posh Essex so I'm going to force him to listen tonight and I'll base my judgement on that. As far as I can hear, his accent could be anything.

He's definitely got a bit of a Welsh "twang" to his accent, but mostly it's just a generic, non-specific English . There's a few words now and again with lazy vowels that show he's spent some time in America, so i can see why people might think that.
