Ah George Monbiot at it again.

I don't think that there is any mileage in this sort of material. It's typical colonialism and also applies  to France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, and especially the Belgians.  I'm also given to understand  that Genghis, Ogdai, and co were pretty heavy dudes too. I suspect that there aren't many countries who want to dwell on their past.

Except for us, when it comes to WW2!

Monbiot is always interesting to read in my experience.  While his views are no doubt predictably left wing and must make many roll their eyes, he's often spot on.  Sorry Garage Joe!

It dates back to his blinkered attitude towards King Coal. Nothing left wing about that.

I am watching Heir Hunters.  There was a story this week about a guy who just died aged over 90.  He fought in the Second World War.  He came back a broken man, shell-shocked, mentally disturbed, homeless and spent the rest of his life in a mental hospital and then a nursing home.  He fought for his country against Hitler and the atrocities that the Nazis were committing and although he didn't die during the war there is no doubt that he died because of the war.  Yes it was a war that we had to fight and it was indeed a just cause.

It's a very true saying indeed those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
