Saint George was born in Lydda which at the time was part of what was called Syria Palaestina, a Roman province which was a merger of Roman Syria and Roman Judaea, Lydda was in the Roman Judaea part. Lydda is now in Israel. His mother was a Christian from Lydda and his father was a Roman general from Cappadocia  in Turkey who had moved to Lydda.
