I really didn't recognise Melissa George there!

Lynda Day George will be #2, not #3.

3 is Anju Bobby George as I posted further up.

After a lot of searching, I can now say that #4 is Susan George (the political scientist, not the actress obviously).

IMO, 4 is extremely difficult - if you don't know straight off, I can't imagine you being able to work it out other than by searching as I did. To make things doubly difficult, the photo's German surroundings are misleading - she's French (American-born).

Thanks people, as always you have been clever buggers   So the only two we need is, unless I have missed some.

musician number 4

Fictional Character number 4

Places called George number 4

Erm, that's three, Dame...

Roxan (or rather her OH) got the 4th Fictional George - it's George McFly (Marty's dad from "Back to the Future").

The 4th Singing George is the Dutch singer Johannes Bouwens, commonly known as George Baker. The photo they've used is comparatively recent, but he had two big hits in the late 60s/early 70s - "Little Green Bag" and "Paloma Blanca".

If you have the other answers for the sportsmen and places, could you post them please, Dame? The basketball player's really annoying me...

OH thinks it's this guy.

George Yardley  no 12 for the Detroit Pistons 1953 - 59.

Yes; that's him, Roxan.

The quiz photo shows him in the Pistons' blue away strip (as opposed to the all white home strip in your photo), which is why I was having difficulty even identifying the team...

Ok great he is happy he is right! Btw you have me singing Paloma Blanca now!

Think yourself lucky, Roxan: every time I think of that song, I can't get the Wurzels out of my head...

As an aside, I still find it remarkable that the guy who wrote "Paloma Blanca" also wrote this (although to be fair, Tarantino is probably responsible for any preconceptions there...   ):

We won't get the answers until the 20th but I will post the results.

the only one we were stuck on was the 4th George place and we have solved the mystery

It's the Danube bridge in Ruse Bulgaria and the designer was  Georgi Ovcharov

Image result for danube rousse bridge

Thanks for all your help everyone and so sorry you're not able to join in Roxan

I can't see your picture, Dame, but it's definitely the right bridge: however I think you've got the wrong connection.

Georgi Ovcharov only co-designed the bridge - he did the decoration (it was Soviet-designed during the communist era). However the bridge is variously known as the Friendship Bridge, the Danube Bridge (post-communist) and the Giurgiu-Ruse Bridge - because it links Giurgiu in Romania with Ruse (or Rousse) in Bulgaria. If I've got it correct, Ruse is in the foreground of the quiz photo, and Giurgiu is on the far side. "Giurgiu" is basically just old Romanian for "George"...
