so i think there must be more to lewis  (loo/lou is..?)

I agree machel, it's a shame Bognor isn't a city.

I like the thinking behind Carlisle being Lewis, and I'd put a few quid on it being right!
Wish I'd found this forum sooner - I had 29 of the first 30, and have got ten today I think thanks to coming on here.
Mind you, I sent my entries to an incorrect email address

Welcome to the forum

Just been on twitter and Richard says there is already a few 40/40 and some GREAT tie-breaker clues.  As I got 1 wrong on Monday I won't qualify for that draw, so I think I will send mine off now with Oxford as the answer to 33 and get into the other draws.

Thanks for all your help and I would never have found this site if not for this quiz, so some good has come from it even if I don't win a book.   Good luck to everyone entering, especially those on 30/30 at the moment.

It's a shame Bognor exists at all, tbh

Not at all! If Bognor hadn't existed we might never have cured my sister of her irrational fear of rowing boats.

Winding up journalists - that's life!

Winchester?

Winch (something you wind up) + ester (as in Esther Rantzen, presenter of That's Life). However, I am at a loss to include the 'Journalists' element.

This is the clue that I submitted - I welcome any guesses:

initial rocket mass contains turbulent gas

Well done - would you care to elaborate as to how you arrived at this? I thought (hoped) it was a really tricky one, so I'd be interested as to your deductions.

Took 'contains turbulent gas' to be a hint that 'gas' would be part of the city name and that 'turbulent' meant the letters would be rearranged.  Came across 'Glasgow' in my list of ones left and saw it fit around the 'Gl' and 'ow' at the end.  Searched for 'rocket mass glow' on Google and came across the GLOW acronym!  I thought it was a good one though.

I like that but iMcgenius has worked out the anagram Southampton.

I know. Puts us in a quandry. I've altered the list to show both possibilities.
