Thanks for posting this, El Loro. Annoyingly, I was scanning through The Register during my lunch break, but they only posted about this after I signed off.

It looks like I've had a lucky escape. I've used CCleaner for years and even recommended it here, but I've only ever used the free version and never signed up for automatic updates. My current version is rather out of date, and I've been meaning to update since I came back from holiday - especially after I got the latest updates for Windows 10. However, I never quite managed to find the time - just as well...
