Hi Veggie, sounds good looks like the women game is getting interesting. I think women managers should get into the game more, but you'll get the people that say it's only a men's game
Eight years ago I started managing a girls side.I was the only female in league meetings to begin with, tho the teams have increasingly got more women staff.Think theres a combination of two things that prevent women progressing.
1.Ladies football is a reasonably new sport compared to mens. The women who are involved with supporting the girls game rarely played(and probably not beyond primary footie in the park stuff).A lot of women feel intimidated by their lack of experience as a player.I certainly dont have the skills and am totally reliant on primary PE drills!(and the occassional text book)
2.Sexism is STILL rife.Girls football even at local level is treated by something akin to Lassa fever.Schools are only just embracing it.Get past that and the sexist pigs at club level and theres league pigs who want to put down your every move and word.
I had an operation and stopped working with that side who went on to win the U16 girls county championship.Under a lady!!!I now work with an U15 side alongside men. These guys are relatively enlightened in terms of football dinosaurism..but they still look sideways at me if I offer to run the line!
But it IS still slowly changing....as those girls we originally coached at the beginning of the league are now young adults, they're putting more back into the game..and they are far more confident about their abilities as afootballer than me and my female colleagues.I'm alright at the psychological stuff..but technically I'm not the best by any shakes. Its got to start somewhere tho!
