Interesting article, but where would it leave clubs like mine, long proud history but currently a yo yo club?

Also if a team can win/comes second in the Championship ( arguably a harder league than the PL, more games, etc), why shouldn't they have their chance of going into the PL and trying in there?

I wouldn't like to see that happen, ok my team is trying currently to get back to the PL, but under the rules that Stan Collymore is proposing, teams like Albion, Wolves and Blues shouldn't be in the PL.  And just occasionally the smaller teams can worry the Big 4, we have managed to do it to Arsenal (sorry La Veggie!!)

They keep bringing up this argument year after year. If the big clubs could do it than they would go for the Euro option, and that would lead to teams who we consider big not being invited to the table.
What these greedy entrepeneurs need is time and gradual change. There will be lots of simple "customers" to come who will accept change. Us old types who love something like Hartlepool v Darlo, Deckchairs v 'Boro, and Man Utd v Arsenal aren't going to get excited by Man Utd v Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG,  or any other crocks we have no interest in.

It's nonsense though, partly because if you were to rank teams based on who has spent the most time in the top flight, then a fair few of the clubs he would probably get rid of would get in, whereas Leeds, the club he wants to award an instant two division promotion to, would miss out. As would a few other clubs that Stan would probably automatically place in his little list of clubs worthy of being in the top flight. West Ham being a notable one....

He makes some good points but I disagree with Stan also, think it's great teams like Wigan etc have made it into the Premier League and stayed up. Someone has to win the legaue, someone has to go down or up and the rest fill the positions simple as. Teams like Leeds, Southampton, Charlton, Norwich etc have all suffered big time fue to lots of problems at the club and now have to try to rebuild.

The only way I could see this working in any way is if the PL is split into two, the top 12 clubs have a league and then there is a PL2, where there would be what he calls the smaller clubs playing.  There would still be Sky interest, there is interest when League 2 matches are played so no revenue would be lost and there would be a change of promotion/relegation between the 2 PL's as well as PL2/Championship.
That way of course, Celtic and Rangers could also join as well, which is what some want to see.

I agree with most of what you guys say It's a terrible idea and a tired one at that. Keep it as it is, surely we like the variety each season gives us. I like the suprises - Man United losing to Burnley, Spurs to Stoke etc...and then you get high scoring thrillers like Spurs v Chelsea, Newcastle and Liverpool etc. etc. Also, I know it wasnt great footy, but when the old Wimbledon climbed right through the leagues into the top division and stayed there for years, proving to be a thorn in the side of the so called big teams.

The arguments about you can only win with money, well, yes, but that has always been the case going back decades and decades. It's all relative - years back it was a local tycoon who could afford to buy big players like Trevor Francis, or, Jack Walker at Blackburn buying Shearer. It's always been the case.
If we wanted it equalised money-wise, does that mean every club has to have exactly the same capacities so the gate revenue for each club is exactly the same? The argument just doesn't 'add up' .

...in my opinion! ops..I got on my soapbox again didn't I?!

I'd like to see the top of the champoinship merged with the bottom of the prem. There would be plenty of interest from Sky,etc....and chances are that one of the 'big' teams would end up in that league from time to time(ie Spurs lol!).
I dont think a team should be in the prem simply because its got a large fan base.Just makes it more difficult for teams like, say,Ipswich or Reading getting promoted on merit

Micheal Owen - Your boys took one hell of a beating!!

Certainly wiped the smile off arrogant manc fans. I was at the game and the atmosphere was unbelievable. Didnt even notice that there were man utd fans inside the stadium, they were so quite.

Back in the title race and this proves Rafa is the man.  The stories this past week have been so over the top, its unbelievable. We battered the champions, without Stevie G and a Torres who was playing through the pain barrier and people say we are a two man team. In that case, Man Utd are a one man team - Darren Fletcher - without him they are shit.
You've got to love Vidic though. Hahaha, he always makes me laugh

Bet we lose to Fulham now
Come on Rafa!!
likeafire
We ain't a one-man team, we have lots of strength in depth compared to your team. You deserved to win no complaints you were dominant in what was a must win game for you guys anyway but I guess this means In Rafa we trust again after he was slagged off a bit last week by some Liverpool fans now they will be kissing his ass, nice to see some fans and people at the top backing him.

We can improve I hope
