Team thing I understand, by why then did Bottas think they were going to change back? If a re-swap wasn't part of the strategy plan then why the radio message saying they weren't re-swapping and that they'd talk later and explain? That (to me) sounds very much like a change of plan that HADN'T been part of the original discussion!

Possibly was, but it all plays out within the race, other teams make changes too

Toto Wolfe explains in detail on the BBC F1 website, Due to the pit mix up which Wolfe takes full responsibility for, Lewis ended up behind Vettel and blistered his tyre getting passed him. Vettel said himself that Mercedes made the right call!

Why would a team give back first place to a driver that had no hope of winning the championship to the driver that was on the brink of securing another world title for Mercedes ? It makes perfect sense to me and like I said, if any other team in the same position did it I would have certainly accepted it...I doubt very much if Lewis wanted to win that way, in fact he's said he feels awful about it.

As for Bottas, he needs to get his finger out... lets be honest he has been disappointment  I had great hopes for him at the beginning, shame he's not taken advantage of being in one of the best cars in F1, in fact I am at a loss as to why they have kept him on personally.

They race for the team - they are paid by the team - and contracted to that team.

They get paid big bucks by the team and can be released by the team.

What an individual driver wants comes second every time unless you're a current world champion or a really big cheese â€Ķ until then you are told what to do.

Sounds pretty simple

Well, you can’t do much more than being in the lead and then being demoted to second place not by a crash or being overtaken but by your own teams orders, Dameee...

But he's not in the running for the championship. If it was the other way round and Bottas was leading the championship I'm sure Lewis would've moved over for him

Bottas didn’t move over though. He was told to by the team boss or whoever it was told him too...

Well, I still don’t think it’s right no matter how it’s put but that only my opinion which I intend to stick by

No one is defending the tactics Moonie, but they tried to ban it a few years ago and it didn't work and we all wish none of them used it  What we are saying is Mercedes only did what most other teams would done in similar circumstances...by the way, Ferrari have been the most prolific users of team orders over the years than any other team.

Irvine would have won it in 99 if he hadn't to move over for Schumi and I remember the race. He retired loaded.

All F1 heritage is gone. Drivers were fearless in those days. They smoked Marlborough in the pits - not advertising pre-madonnas with printed watches on their gloves.

Don't give them a tactic button and ban all driver radio comms

That's dangerous. They've tried it before. A driver needs to know that his car's in good shape

No it's not. How did Fangio, Moss, Clark, Hill, Stewart, Prost, Senna do it?

I blanked it out, for the moment, as it seemed to me it was referring to the race - which hasn't been shown yet. We, well I, don't want to know ANYTHING about the race before C4 show it. I know you didn't give any details, but just that indication of something and about whom, rather puts a damper on things, IMO.

So maybe we not have a thread then if no one can talk about it?  Surely those that don't want to know can avoid that thread?

And anyway.....it makes no odds cos next year there is no live coverage on C4 (not sure about R5Live) except for the British Grand Prix

this is exactly why I don't post in here now...surely anyone interested in F1 will know the results by now

Can I suggest you put that in the thread title? I nearly posted I am not in the uk (but will be soon yippeeeee 🙃) and have no idea when the race is aired.

Some races C4 show live, but others they can show only highlights. I usually post those details in advance.

Next year all the races will be highlights only on C4, with the exception of the GB race which they can show live and as we don't get much in the way of comments/discussions in here any more, I'm not sure if I'll continue........I'll think about it over the winter!

I still say yet, those that don't want to know anything can avoid this thread

Or resurrect the thread that we had for that!

Dear oh dear

Why not just chat about the race as it's being run on Ch4?

Whether highlights or live

 . . . and relax

That was the original idea of this thread (and its previous incarnations), but gradually peeps stopped using it much. I still kept posting the times of it airing on C4, as I know there are some who won't or can't watch Sky.
