Now that's a funny name for a village isn't it? Just taking a stroll down memory lane with the OH - he thought it was Kirby Stephen (as just mentioned on Downton) that we used to go to for a pint of Ole Peculiar (him not me) - I thought it was Enderby Quernow.
Excuse me .....................I'm rambling!

The next village to mine is called Crapstone and there used to be a sign on the main road for it and underneath a sign for free toilets. I always wanted to take a photo, but after years of being oblivious, the council finally took the free toilet sign down, oh and also because the free toilets weren't free anymore.

In County Durham we have villages called, Pity Me, Fatfield and Muggleswick.

Love, (and know) that one...... I used to like the fact that they had a school up here called Bilsdale, Midcable, Chop Gate...pretty much no one could pronounce it!

Isn't there a kids TV programme called Crapstone Villas ? It's such a 'silly' name tou'd think it was made up.
Thinking about funny names - I remember years and years ago seeing a sign that said 'portsmouth for the continent' underneath someone had written 'Frinton for the incontinent'
Near where I grew up there's a village called Barton-in-the-Beans and another called Sheepy Magna

I was brought up in a place called Haltwhistle which was approx 2 miles fom Once Brewed and just a spit from Twice Brewed. My mother belonged Pity Me. I love unusual place names.
