Two years ago I completed a lengthy DWP form to claim Attendance Allowance.

I had to wade through tons of documents to find dates of hospital appointments etc ...

It was a nightmare

I sent it without making a copy

Now 2yrs on I have another - to reassess my mum's needs meaning I have to do it all over again IF I can find all the relevant documents

I was wondering if the DWP would send me a photocopy of the old application I made so I had all that info at hand again to complete the form quicker

Would they give me a copy of this?

Don't count on it. They rely on you doing all the stuff yourself again

We have a major DWP Centre near us and wondered if they might fax it to them and we could sign for it

It's the wording of explanations about my mum's needs too - took me weeks to word things right.

I'd do anything to avoid having to reword everything again

All 35 pages

Can you perhaps get help from the Macmillan nurses Renton .....they gave us a letter to include.

It's not that I need help

It's that i'm trying to avoid wading through mountains of info IF I can find it all, and it's the wording of answers ... took me ages.

I can do it again but I know i'm going to forget or will have mislaid info and spend weeks hunting for it

Which is where they ask you to give your answers again and will pick you up on any discrepancy

Good I’m ok thanks

Baz

We contacted the hospital we use for dates if attendance as outpatients (for which you don't receive a letter copy)

They said we could have that info if we requested it in writing

So I wondered if our right to access our own info would allow us to have a copy of the previous forms I completed?

Or at least to view it perhaps?

Good luck with finding all the relevant paperwork, Sainty.

Unfortunately, I doubt they’ll give you a copy of the previous form.

If you answer truthfully in the first place, there shouldn’t be any discrepancies.

Why do you think that?

It's mostly so I don't have to plough through mountains of paperwork

Because they are asking you for an update on the current situation, so why would you need a copy of how things were two years ago. They want to know what things are like now.

BTW, I don’t know anything and, I hope I’m wrong and they do give you the info you want.

What about freedom of information? Don't they have to give you everything they have on file?

I know some info can be withheld but I think it's in exceptional circumstances

So i'm hoping you're right

@Yogi19 it's dates of medication began/ended, what used to be taken and what for .... the overlap in the last 2yrs

And we were pondering all the aids n adaptions we use

It would just be easier to see how I phrased it all, milligrams of meds 2yrs ago - how long have you taken this med is another headache

I do understand why it would be useful for you to have that info

Just a lil update

Got a letter saying all benefits will stop on 16th July - eleven days time

That's everything

So I called to ask how the claim was going

"Did you include documents?"

"Yes - as supporting evidence"

"That's why it's been uploaded on our system as 'documents' and not as a claim - so it hasn't been looked at"

We'll try to hurry it up - call back in about a week
