we have pit shafts, we have water running into those...more and more sinkholes will appear. 

     Apparently our estate was built on old mineworks

our house is  built on/ near mines  we had to have  a special survey done- ex Hafod Colliery is at the back of us - its been landscaped for walkers now

I can think of at least 5 pits in a 4 mile radius of our town

aww are they still there or converted to heritage sites - like you we live in a mining area - Gresford colliery is a memorial to the men who died there

I can understand someone buying a house with known risks attached and the insurance companies saying no way...but sinkholes? They can happen anywhere and are not predictable
