I think they are quite common (3 out of 5 of us sisters have had them), but yes I do think in the main you do think cancer, plus the doc has you booked in to hospital ASAP to be checked. First time I found one, I was booked in the next day (Saturday morning) to have cells drawn out and checked. Second time I was in having a mammogram within days. Thankfully both times all was clear.

Slim if you've got something you're concerned about book an appointment with your doctor immediately after reading this.

Cinds

Is there any pain from it Slim?

I've got really painful 'beads' of lumps (like a pearl necklace!) in my boob for months and they hurt like a *bleep bleep* but the doctor said not to worry about anything too serious because it's the ones that don't cause any pain that are the ones to worry about BUT that they too are very often cysts or something less harmful.

Most definitely get them checked out though either way.

Ells

I've (thankfully) never had one but I'm sure my reaction would be OMG, OMG

As Cinds said ^^^ I do believe most lumps are 'harmless' but it's common sense (and very important) to get them checked immediately. My MiL got hers checked (many years ago) the GP told her it was harmless and full investigation was considerably delayed with tragic consequences - it could/should have been a very different story if it had been investigated sooner.

Not trying to scare monger here - just saying that if you have a problem Slim get it sorted. I have a numberof friends/relatives/acquaintances who have had very positive outcomes.

I had a full MOT last year and lumps were found in my right breast where I was getting a pain when showering ( like pins being scrapped along the nipple) they are cysts & will go of their own accord ..hopefully.

But have this last week had a multicoloured bruise come up on my other breast...has a significant lump under it...no pain!

Have a doc appt in the morn as am a little concerned.

most breast lumps are harmless cysts and as you've said go of their own accord.

As Cinds said, it's the lumps that don't necessarily cause any pain that are the ones to look for.  However, I would also say that you usually get another symptom that you would not necessarily link to it being cancer.  For instance, when my lump was found, I had a persistent cough but as I smoked (quite heavily) at the time, I put it down to that.  It turned out that was an indicator something was wrong.

Do you remember knocking your  ? the first step is seeing your doctor and getting them to take you seriously - mine told me I was being silly as I was 33 at the time and he thought I was too young to get breast cancer even though my mother had died of it

Make sure he/she sends you to a consultant at the hospital because I wouldn't take what a GP says as gospel to be honest and it won't hurt to have it checked for peace of mind

My Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer Jan of last year, but because of her health was not able to have the normal treatment...they put her on calcium tablets which shrank it thankfully...unfortunately she died just before Christmas..

Not from the cancer....her dementia led her to forget how to eat & drink ..very sad way to go! Was not nice to see.

I know my hormone level should be 14 & is 63.7 (hence I know I am on the pre life change) so I expect lumps & bumps to appear etc....but the bruise is a bit alarming....I know I haven't banged it...tis a place where one would remember I think.

I have fibroids too...which again should desist by their own accord...

Am a bit of a wreck Ha!

Sorry bout your Mum Pengee

I'd wholeheartedly agree with that.

And Pengy and Slim  for your mums. Slim - I'm not surprised you're terrified -  it's a normal reaction - just take heart that you're doing exactly the right thing in getting it sorted at the earliest opportunity.  Good luck for tomorrow

Definitely follow the good advice above.  I have had breast cancer and the first symptom with me was pain, so there are no rules to follow.  I couldn't get up the docs the next morning fast enough, and it was caught in time.  This will probably turn out to be nothing at all but insist on a needle biopsy at least and don't be fobbed off.  Good luck
