First of 8 episodes on BBC One tonight at 20.00. Hosted as before by Claudia Winkleman. Judges are Mary Berry and Chris Bavin as before plus Angela Hartnett. 10 contestants to start with 1 leaving each episode.

Each week they face two challenges - Mary's task is to create a dish for a special occasion and Chris's has a "rustle up" challenge - based on one star ingredient and to produce a mid-week masterpiece. The contestants who haven't impressed the judges sufficiently are then faced with Angela's eliminator round where they have to replicate one of her recipes.

I’ve never made pasta from scratch

Nor me, but I have never made a potato either, and to me they are both just  something that may take hours of time and skill to make them shine.

You’ve never cooked a potato?

Cooked many Yogi, (expertly I might add )  but as for growing them from scratch, I leave that to the experts, as I do my Pasta...

My eldest son grows (delicious) potatoes and gives me some.
