Good morning everyone

A bit of sunshine here, showers around.

Summer, I'm glad I found what your friend's Christmas tree was. Although there were artificail trees before then, they seemed too basic to be possible, and it was too early for it to have been aluminium based and far too early to have been plastic based.

I hope everyone has a good day

El Loro

Watched two films yesterday evening.

The first was The Great Gabbo (1929) starring Erich von Stroheim as a ventriloquist who goes mad. It's a curio of a film - his scenes have some worth and one almost feels sorry for him by the end of the film. The majority of the film is set in a theatre staging a musical revue (with one scene with him doing his ventriloquist act) but the emphasis is on one musical number after another. Big extravagant numbers but the film was made before Busby Berkeley's era and they aren't of that standard.

Here's one of the shorter numbers called "That New Step". It's sung by Marjorie Kane who was 20 at the time but had the nickname "Babe":

The second was Mononoke-hime (1997) the Japanese original of Princess Mononoke with English subtitles rather than the English dubbed version. Extraordinary high class animation.

The orginal theme song as in the Japanese version which was sung by the counter-tenor Yoshikazu Mera. That's the highest male voice excluding falsetto - he would have been about 26 at the time.
