I saw a trailer on BBC1 about the film "Florence Foster Jenkins" which they will be showing some time. (Meryl Streep/Hugh Grant) Biopic of an American heiress well known in the 1920s, 30s and into the 40s who had pretensions of being a great opera singer even though her singing was not good, and some even regarded her as the worst opera singer in the world.

I don't know if Orson Welles had her in mind in his film Citizen Kane. In the film, he virtually bullies Susan, one of his wives in it, to being an opera singer. This is the result:

I've come across that late at night El several times just before nodding off and it was quite amusing in parts. I'll keep my eye out for the full BBC airing

Afternoon troops

Hope all are in fine fettle      I might have got this wrong reading between the lines but Sweet if your mum has relocated locally to you I think that's great

These television providers always have an angle - one or two channels have disappeared off Sky too. Mainly +1's although Fox News going was no great loss. It's the age old model of reducing their costs whilst increasing yours.

Virgin v Sky comes down to who you support really. Branson's space programme or Murdoch's upkeep of Jerry Hall.

Have a nice day everyone

Hi Tuco

I wonder which is the more expensive?

Afternoon Yogi

Hope you are having a good Sunday

Fine Yogi - you too

The one channel that Sky removed that annoyed me was ITV London in amongst the regional terrestrial variations. Can you get that on Virgin?

Sorry Tuco, I missed this earlier. We get what Mr Y calls ITV England (virgin call it ITV AD) but I don’t know if that’s the channel you mean.

Yeah, Murdoch Inc. do the Beeb variations too. Handy at times, especially for regional news reports when a story breaks instead of Reporting Scotland when it's on

When Scottish BBC2 mucks about with Gardeners’ World schedule, I can still watch it with Baz, Ros and EC on BBC2AD

Yeah, that's useful too. Basically any regional Scottish garbage head South

Rocking Ros Rose

Thanks Ros sweet dreams

a productive day here

Tuco you’ve got it right, my mum has relocated very brave at her age too. I think she was afraid of growing old and not being near family. I can now be more supportive to her as and when she’ll need it. Meanwhile, she’s in good shape lately and will probably be far too busy mingling & exploring, that I won’t see much of her lol

i hope you all sleep well sweet dreams

~Sparkling Summer~

Good morning everyone, very humid here and set to even increase during the coming night to over 90%!!  The forecast for the South East sounds quite frightening for the elderly and the frail I hope it will be tempered by a breeze.  Well done your Mum Summer, very brave to tackle that move and I hope she will be very happy in her new home.

Enjoy your day everyone

The Met office heat warnings issued today which go to Friday (which are for England only):
No red warnings
Amber warnings (so officially a heatwave) for the south east, London, east of England, East and West Midlands.
Yellow warnngs (so just below heatwave) for the South West and Yorkshire + the Humber
And green, so no heatwave, for North West England and North East England.

I was talking to my brother yesterday as he's in the heatwave area. He's coping but doesn't like it.

Wallace the mule has won the first dressage competition since the rules were changed to allow mules to compete along with ponies and horses.

Article says the competition was in Gloucester so I checked this and it was actually in Hardwicke  which is just to the south of Gloucester which make a lot more sense to me.

Wallace the mule is a rather handsome chap

Squiggle, that's very high humidity for you and very unpleasant for you It's 67 here so humid but nothing like as bad.

Those beefeater guards do get training for this level of hear - if they faint, they do so fainting to attention (ie still saluting as they topple over) They are retired service personnel so could well have experience of really hot weather.

Many years ago I was watching the local Midlands news on television (can't remember if BBC or ITV) and they had an item with a couple of young ice skaters who were at the beginning of their partnership. They were trying to drum up some support from the public to go and watch them in a competition. This was probably around 1976 or 77 and the competition could well have been the British Figure Skating Championship in 1977 at Nottingham which is where they came from. I don't have any particular interest in ice skating but they seemed a nice young couple and I hoped at the time they would succeed.

They certainly did and ITV are making a one off drama of their early years.

Evening all

I’ve had a busy but good day with the tiddlers - we seemed to spend half the day laughing over silly stuff

They helped me make meatballs for our tea tonight. PB was excellent at forming the meatballs and BB did a good job of placing them onto a plate to rest - until he decided to give them a pat and they ended up looking like mini burgers.

PB and I reformed them when he wasn’t looking

El, I loved the beaver link and I’ll definitely tune in to the Torvill and Dean drama

Summer, I’m so pleased your mum has settled in well

Squiggle, I hope the humidity lessened as the day went on
