Work has started on restoring the ruined Llanthony Secunda medieval priory in Gloucester. It was founded in 1136.

It was created as a haven for the monks from Llanthony priory when they came under attack from the local Welsh people, That priory is at the eastern edge of the Brecon national park and is about half way along a road from Hay on Wye towards Abergavenny,

You may want to make a note of Storyville on Monday 20th on BBC4 at 21.00. Storyville is an umbrella title for films & documentaries from around the world. This one is a film called Life, Animated.

It's a coming to age real life story of an autistic boy growing up and his family and how Disney animated films were used to create a language whereby the boy could express himself. It's not a Disney film though it includes clips and also its own animated sequences. So it's a part real-life part animated docudrama. It's been nominated for an Oscar in the documentary category.

It's heart-warming and inspirational. PG certificated.

Another local swan news item.

This swan landed on the M5 motorway in Gloucestershire a couple of days ago and was rescued by the two officers in the photo. (the police car was stationery at the time).

I've never seen the film Hot Fuzz but apparently there's a scene where the two policemen rescue a swan. One of the policemen, Simon Pegg, was born in Brockworth which is just outside Gloucester.

Good morning everyone, a bit cloudy but I think it may brighten up.

Summer one quote from Winston Churchill is very eloquent about his views on Europe "We are with Europe, but not of it. We are linked, but not compromised. We are associated but not absorbed. And should European statesmen address us and say 'Shall we speak for thee.' We should reply, 'nay sir for we dwell amongst our own people.'"

That's not the most auspicious start to a relationship I've ever heard of EL but good luck to them.

Enjoy your day everyone

squiggle

 I have been temporarily blinded.

Meanwhile that's my physical work completed for a few days. Later on I booked a few hotels and train journeys for July. I'm going to have a few beers and watch the tellybox - we have a few things to watch.

Tomorrow we are at home to Oxford and I will take the eldest grandson.

Have a great weekend everybody!
