Good morning everyone, a little grey but I hope it will brighten a bit later.

Good luck today Summer, hope all goes well Miss Bramble was a hooligan, obviously 'if I'm awake then everyone can wake up too'

Yes the owl definitely has a 'shall I, shan't I' face

I bought a soaker hose yesterday because I realise that the slope is going to be a bit impossible for me to water successfully if we get a dry summer and I don't want to lose my new plants.  I thought if I carefully lowered my sprinkler down there that would do the trick but it dropped off the end of the hose and is now marooned down there, typical!

Have a good day everyone

My day has been good. My youngest son is at friends' in the village and is staying over with us, and middle son and Dil came for dinner tonight - and middle son washed my car for me.

Good morning everyone, a little grey but dry.  I hope all goes well today Summer and there's none of this

I think I have seen that film about Hercules the bear before, to that couple he was like their child wasn't he?

Have a good day everyone, you are getting your lunch cooked for you aren't you Yogi, I hope it is deeeeelicious

squiggle

Good morning everyone. Misty and damp weather today.

Summer, lots of luck with the walk today.

Yes Squiggle, youngest son is on cooking duties for dinner tonight.

Having watched last night's documentary about orcas in captivity (BBC4 Storyville, if anyone wants to watch it on Iplayer), I certainly won't be visiting any Sea World places.

I must admit, several years ago, we visited Loro Parque in Tenerife - before they had orcas - and Ocean World in Dominican Republic, which has dolphins, not orcas. We got to go into the pool with the dolphins in Dom Rep and loved the experience, but now realise that these mammals ought to be out in the ocean where they belong.

I echo Summer's sentiments and send love to our absent friend - hope you are back soon, we miss you.

Have a good day everyone, see you later.

Yogi19

Yogi, I didn't watch Blackfish last night but orcas (killer whales) and dolphins shouldn't be kept in capitivity as they are intelligent. Though there is the downside that whales have been hunted down when they are in the oceans by Japan for so-called scientific research.

Anyone who has seen that documentary might want to then watch Free Willy.

El Loro

By coincidence considering Summer's walk, in the C of E, today's gospel is the road to Emmaus. This is the account of 2 men walking towards the village of Emmaus when they are met by a stranger. They start talking whilst they are walking. This takes quite some time and by the time they get to Emmaus it's getting towards evening. They invite the stranger to eat with them. When he breaks the bread for them they realise that it is Jesus, after his resurrection. He then goes, and the two men decide to return to to tell the disciples about this.

Keiko, the poor whale which appeared in Free Willy also had the bent over dorsal fin, caused by being kept in captivity. His release into the wild was not completely successful.

Yogi19

Yogi, having googled about Keiko, I see what you mean.

Although I've never watched it, Au Hazard Balthazar is probably the best fictional film about the mistreatment of animals by people (in this case a donkey). It's black and white and French with subtitles. Directed by Robert Bresson who made very serious minimalistic films which are highly regarded but as far removed from Hollywood blockbusters as any film can be.

I haven't seen that fim, El - but poor donkey.

I do yogi! The challenge is 12 hours so I'm very proud to have achieved 9 1/2 and without feeling exhausted.
The weather was misty on the summits but reasonable lower down, it was ideal for me because it kept me fresh and I couldn't get disheartened by seeing how far or high I had to go...

What was cooked?

I'd planned on doing a big steak tonight but I'm actually too stuffed to eat

Sorry Summer, I will need to go now. Goodnight and sweet dreams and well done again on completing the challenge.

Night owl hug for Ros.

For absent friends. Come back soon.

Good morning everyone

Fairly sunny here but forecast to cloud over though should be dry until late evening.

Summer, well done on your walk and your time of 9.5 hours

For those missing Downton Abbey, BBC2 are repeating the 1974 series The Pallisers early afternoon starting today. There was one series made of 26 episodes and were based on the novels by Anthony Trollope (same family as Joanna but not directly).

Good morning sunny and pleasant here, I've opened my window and the birds are singing away happily

Yogi, I too am having a lazy day! I hope you enjoy yours. Is hubby at home too? Is it bank holiday up there as well?
There's a big bar of fruit & nut in the fridge that will need demolishing before my pre-holiday cut back starts tomorrow

El, thank you I'm very happy with my time, and surprised at my level of fitness, those training walks have clearly worked.
Thanks for the tip, I shall have a look for that and set it to record. I miss Downton!

Good morning El. I remember watching The Pallisers in the seventies and I enjoyed it. Thanks for the heads up, I'll watch it again.

Good morning Summer. You have earned that bar of chocolate.

Hubby nearly always has to work Bank Holidays, and he's working today which means I can have a lazy day.

I'm off to see a client. I know it's a bank holiday but I've got my boiler being serviced tomorrow (routine annual one) and I've got courses for much of Wednesday so it's convenient for both of us to meet this morning.

I hope your meeting with the client (and the servicing of your boiler) goes well.

Yogi19

Well done Summer, and in such a brilliant time too Lovely to feel so fit and strong

That sounds like a lovely lunch Yogi, right up my street.

Ooh thanks for the tip EL, I will give The Pallisers another try.  I wish they would repeat The Forsyte Saga, I remember really enjoying that, I can't remember too much about The Pallisers.

Moonie I hope you enjoy your break from the forum and come back feeling refreshed

I hope all goes well with your client EL.  Have a great day everyone, no matter what you're up to.

Yes it did yogi, I feel less stiff than when I first woke. I've run out of my lavender bath stuff but I do have a tub of molton brown muscle soak bath salts, which I save for the most needed occasions
I'm laying down again now but hope to have a gentle stretch on my yoga mat later

Is Kiera relaxing next to you today?

Morning squiggle, thank you
What are your plans for today?

El, I hope your meeting doesn't take too long today

I am glad you are not too stiff now, another long soak tonight and I think you will be fresh as a daisy tomorrow.

I intend to do as little as possible, I woke up with a very sore left shoulder, I must have slept awkwardly but it's making life quite difficult.

I hope the pain in your shoulder eases off. Can you rub some Voltarol or similar ointment onto it, or is it in a difficult to reach position?

Yogi19

I'm back from seeing my client. She's one of my nicer clients and I've done her tax return for years and also her son's and daughter's returns when returns have been required.

Squiggle, I hope the Movelat helps your shoulder.

I found this document on the Northern Devon NHS site about frozen shoulders. Although that's not what you have there are some useful general shoulder exercises on pages 4 to 6 which may help. Some of them are similar to the ones I had when I had that rotor cuff injury in my left shoulder last year and they did help a lot.

http://www.northdevonhealth.nh..._frozen_shoulder.pdf

El Loro

Thank you EL, very kind, I have saved a copy of the PDF and shall print it up, I think one or two of the exercises might be very useful.  The first one is very similar to the one I was given for after a mastectomy when you have to get the arm back in use again and ensure it does not stiffen up.  When I think about it the weakness in the arm is similar to when I had that operation.

squiggle

Squiggle, the Drama channel showed that entire Pride & Prejudice series yesterday lasting 6 hours. Sometimes they repeat series quite quickly so you might want to look at their schedules though 6 hours at one go is a bit of a marathon.

I was one of the many people who saw the first episode of Jamaica inn, had to turn on the subtitles, and didn't bother seeing the other 2 episodes. The BBC got heavily criticised and it's possible that they might redo the voices and then repeat it. The BBC would hope to sell the series to other countries and I dount if the States would be prepared to buy it as it is.

Good morning everyone

Rain overnight here has cleared and it's now fairly sunny. Rain forecast to return late afternoon.

Yogi, I hope your internet problems get sorted quickly. I've checked on the Virgin forum as well and there's no mention of problems where you are.

My boiler is having its annual service this afternoon but I'm not expecting any nasty surprises.

El Loro

Good morning everyone, I think we have similar weather to yours EL, I hope the boiler service goes tickety boo.

Isn't that mountain beautiful, I hope whoever buys it doesn't try to do anything silly like stopping walkers.  We had that down here when a new owner purchased Vixen Tor and banned walkers who had always been allowed access before.  And we had it nearer to me when new owners bought Watermouth Cove, a beautiful cove, part of the South West Coast Path and refused to let walkers use it.  They had to re-route the South West Coast Path because of it.  The owner of the mountain sounds a lovely guy doesn't he?

I hope your internet behaves itself today Yogi.

This is Watermouth Cove

squiggle

Squiggle what a shame about Vixen Tor and Watermouth Cove.

The mountain Blencathra is in the Lake District National Park and is also known as Saddleback made famous by Alfred Wainwright so any attempt to prevent public access would be met by considerable opposition. I've seen on another site that virtually the whole fell is open access land under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act, meaning walkers can exercise their right to roam at most times.

Afternoon all
Yogi I hope your internet settles today. My house phone isn't working, but my mums wasn't over the weekend too. I'll see how it is tonight and then report it if it's still off.

El I hope the boiler service went well

Apart from first thing this morning, my internet has been behaving.

How are your muscles today?

Yogi19

Good morning everyone

Clouding over here, and showers are forecast. Forecast is for very unsettled weather for many days.

Squiggle, I hope your shoulder continues to recover, and Summer, I hope you have now fully recovered.

I'll be going out shortly after 9 for a tax course this morning and an accounting update course for the first half of the afternoon. There have been quite a lot of changes so the courses should be useful.

El Loro

Good morning everyone, very showery today - good for my new plants

I am glad the stiffness is wearing off quickly Summer.  My shoulder is definitely improving all the time - the Movelat didn't help I don't think Yogi, perhaps not suitable for that type of injury, but another night of taking pain killers but anyway it is improving.

I hope the two courses are interesting and useful EL.

Have a great day everyone

squiggle

Hi Summer the pond is looking lovely and I should be able to get fish in about a week.  The showers are working out perfectly for the newly planted plants, I have 2 more to go in, and another rhododendron on the way, I got carried away and decided to plant another one further along the slope too.

Yay I'd forgot it was a PB day, have a great time Yogi.

squiggle
I'm just waiting to pick up my car after it's MOT & service, so I've come to my SIL's to put a colour on her hair.
When we were busy talking we didn't notice bramble sneak off and found her in the room where 2 pet bunnies are kept! luckily they were safely locked in their cage so she couldn't get to them but it still scared the life out of me! She was aggressive towards them but she could easily have frightened them
~Sparkling Summer~

I'm back from my two courses. The first one on tax was very useful as there have been many many changes. The second one on accounting was fairly interesting but nothing major which I wasn't already aware of. Little chance of anyone falling asleep during either course with the quantity of material covered.

I don't think many of the problems on squiggle's list are ones which ring a bell for me. At courses I attend, most of those attending stay silent while the person giving the course is talking, typical English reserve. One ot two people might ask a question or make a comment, but the only person who seems to always asks questions or comments (not excessively, but a couple of times a session) is me.

El Loro

Evening everyone.

I'm glad your car passed its MOT, Summer. My youngest son's car passed its MOT too.

El, I'm glad the courses were useful to you. Shame about the odd biscuit.

Had a nice day with PB and my youngest son. My eldest son and DiL call Harvey their Big Bubba, so now PB calls all dogs 'Bubba'.

Off for a soak in the bath, see you in a wee while.

Good morning everyone. It has been raining overnight, up here.

lol Summer, I wonder how you ended up with that girls' pics as your goodnight pic?

Summer, I think you are wise to make room for lots of ice cream, and lovely pasta too.

Ros, is it the performance of Mozart's Requiem on the 17th of May? I'm sure your choir will sound wonderful.

Squiggle, your slope is going to look beautiful with all your new plants. Did your  grandson manage to rescue the sprinkler from the end of your hose yet?

Have a good day, everyone.

Yogi19

Good morning everyone, very wet here, for once I am delighted because the garden is practically singing with joy.  I find it so thrilling to see everything coming into flower and looking so good.  No Yogi my sprinkler is still down there, getting rained on now   Never mind my grandson will be over soon.  The slope is definitely beginning to look a lot more like a garden and less like a poor bare patch.  How are everyone's gardens looking?  Ooh I ordered some long handled cutters which came and they are great.  I have lilies in the pond and find it difficult to trim the foliage, the long handled cutters should be just the ticket.

Good idea Summer, you will be able to eat lots of delicious food without a care in the world.  I think if I were ever to go on a cruise I should have to starve myself for a year before they serve so much food on those ships, unless of course the seas were stormy, I am not a good sailor.

Oh and my shoulder is completely back to normal

Enjoy your day everyone
