Afternoon all

El, I’m glad that badger culling is coming to an end

I got one of those Amazon scam calls on Monday. I’ve had quite a few of them in recent months.

Summer, I hope you are wide awake now...after your deep sleep

Moonie, I’m glad you are feeling a bit better

Squiggle, you are right about this bad weather affection some self employed trades.

I have been to get my haircut *twirls* and I’m parent visiting this evening.

Enjoy the rest of your day, everyone

Fankoo Yogi

Nice hair job

I hope your visit to your parents goes well and that they are okay
I hope you get back home safely

Good morning everyone

Sunny frosty start here.

About 15% of Virgin Media fixed line phone or television customers have had their phone numbers, home and email addresses on a martketing database openly accessible - not known if that was hacked into. The database did not include passwords or financial details. Virgin sending emails to anyone on that list warning them of the risk of phishing emails, nuisance calls and identity theft.

Virgin Media say that they have contacted everyone so presumably if you haven't heard from them about this you aren't on that database.

I hope everyone has a good day

The thing is El, how do you know if the email is scam or not should you receive one

As far as I can tell, you would have received a warning email from Virgin yesterday if you had been one of the customers affected, Link to Virgin's page with advice about the breach:

Moonie, the first part of the email reads:
We are very sorry to have to inform you that we recently became aware that some of your personal information, stored on one of our databases has been accessed without permission. Our investigation is ongoing but we currently understand that the database was accessible from at least 19 April 2019 and that the information has been recently accessed.

To reassure you, the database did NOT include any of your passwords or financial details, such as bank account number or credit card information.

The database was used to manage information about our existing and potential customers in relation to some of our marketing activities. This included: contact details (such as name, home and email address and phone numbers), technical and product information, including any requests you may have made to us using forms on our website. In a very small number of cases, it included date of birth. Please note that this is all of the types of information in the database, but not all of this information may have related to you.

We take our responsibility to protect your personal information seriously. We know what happened, why it happened and as soon as we became aware we immediately shut down access to the database and launched a full independent forensic investigation. We have also informed the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Given the nature of the information involved, there is a risk you might be targeted for phishing attempts, fraud or nuisance marketing communications. We understand that you will be concerned so we are writing to everybody affected to provide reassurance, guidance and support. We have put all of the latest information on our website https://www.virginmedia.com/help/data-incident, including some advice on how to stay safe online -(the email continues from there but I don't know the actual text)

Evening all

We haven’t received an email from Virgin so hope that means we haven’t been affected by the data breach.
Summer, did you manage to stay awake?

Popped into Morrisons and the soap shelves - liquid and bars - were empty and most of the painkillers were gone too. Looks like the panic buying has started.

Hope everyone has had a good day

Good morning everyone

Weather is rainy and breezy.

I’m hopeful that we haven’t been affected by the Virgin issue, El, and we’re always careful re dodgy emails and phone calls anyway.

Moonie, you are sensible staying in on a day like this

Have a good day, all

My one and only good idea for this month Yogi

Moonie

Just heard this on the radio. It's the English folk song "Dance to Your Daddy". It's a version by Nancy Kerr. It's exhilarating.

The folk song was used as the theme song for the James Bolam series "When the Boat Comes In" but this version is really toe-tapping. And part way through she's singing one tune and playing another which is remarkable.
