Former Apprentice candidate Christopher Farrell has confessed in court to  committing fraud.

The ex-Royal Marine, who was arrested over alleged financial irregularities in August and remained on bail throughout the current run of the business reality show, appeared before magistrates in Plymouth facing four counts of fraud by false representation.

The Mirror reports that Farrell, who lasted eight weeks in the competition before being fired by Lord Sugar, spoke only to confirm his name, age, address and enter the four guilty pleas. He is due to be sentenced at a later date.

Farrell's participation on the programme sparked controversy when it emerged that he had a conviction for possessing an offensive weapon and was fired from a previous job for viewing internet porn in the workplace.
