I blame Lewis's for my claustrophobia. I was in one of their old-fashioned lifts, with the metal grill gates, along with my mum and a dozen other people when it started playing up. I was at the screaming stage (much to my mother's embarrassment) when it started working again. I was only about 9 at the time.

I started shopping in the 70's and it was great.

Then they all petered out

There were some brilliant shops - I remember my mum had cards for a couple of the warehouse places in town and saved up their stamps, we'd go a big expedition in to spend the stamps every summer

Shops I remember when I started shopping on my own were Sesame ( a wee hippydippy place) and what every's !
