Apparently Rage Against The Machine fans are trying to do battle with the evil Cowell Empire by d/loading "Killing In The Name Of" from December the 13th. The Christmas number 1 slot always goes to the X Factor winner now, which is tedious.

The fans (of course) have a Facebook Group.

The song contains 17 mentions of the F word which I can imagine will horrify certain sections of the press and public. The band are political activists, anti-globalisation, anti-capitalist, anti-racism...anti...well anything nasty and right wing really.

A snippet of the (clean bits!) lyrics:Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses

Personally I think it's a choooooon, but I love a good shouty rock song. Though in light of recent world events I reckon "Sleep Now In The Fire" the anti-capitalist song might have made more of a statement.  It's video was filmed by Michael Moore in front of Wall Street

Anyway, ho ho ho and all that

Thoughts?

I kept changing the title, I dunno how long they can be...and "There is a campaign to get Rage Against The Machine's song 'Killing In The Name Of' to Number 1 this Christmas to defeat Simon Cowell and the X Factor" seemed a bit long

I know Gyps! But I like waffling, innit, but no one else likes waffling about the same things I do...so I had to do it for meself, so to speak

It just came up as news on my NME headlines widget thingy on my google page.  And then that made me want to do the slo-mo headbang thing you have to do to this song, then after my brains had been shaken I started a thread

If I start posting angel smileys in threads about deceased goldfish then you can keeel me twice.

As I like to shoehorn in a Manics reference all the time every now and then, no Christmas song thread would be complete without this.

Worth it just for James' "unusual" pronunciation of Scalextric.

Somebody rang into Radio One to say they were trying to get Journey to #1 for Christmas with Don't Stop Believin', because there was a rumour that the X Factor single is going to be Don't Stop Believin'.  I don't know if there is any truth in this rumour.

I read on Digi Spy News that Journey was going to be the winners song but now Simon has chosen a Miley Cyrus song (that only Stacey and Joe's vocal range can cope with )

did they ever find the bloke that went missing from the msp's?
No, he was declared legally dead earlier this year.  There have been no credible sightings but no body has even been found.

Don't stop believin' suddenly seems appealing
It does.

not heard many of msp's songs but my 2 faves are design for like and if you tollerate this.
They have moments of being amazing and moments of being epically bad. But I think that's part of why I love them.  My fave stuff is when they were glam and wore eyeliner.

Yeah I love RATM but I think I'm veering towards the Muppets too

I just googled a well known phrase or saying from a RATM song which Crossy junior used to play at full volume. It turns out that the song is called "Killing in the name!" Fancy that!  I prefered Bombtrack myself. These were the sorts of things kiddies  used to play to show their independence and such. Mrs Crossy and I were not moved, which is probably why he has turned out to be such a straight businessman.
