It's a romance of sorts, but so well done given the limitations of the time, even if you have sensibilities it's still a great film

Dame_Ann_Average posted:Eugene's Lair posted:Trick question: Mississippi didn't ratify it until 2013!
Actually, I was aware (because I remember the press at the time) that the Mississippi State Senate moved a bill to ratify in 1995, but they needed to sign the bill, and they somehow "forgot" to do so until reminded in 2013...
I nearly put recently and then thought I would look a fool and I was confused with something else
And the lesson is: never underestimate how slowly the Southern States can move on these sorts of issues...

Spot on Syd
I meant to post this for Martin Luther King Day, but never got round to it...
I don’t think we should be erasing/sanitising history. We need to learn from the mistakes, and we can’t do that if we erase all the bad bits.

If there is one thing research taught me it was to try and be aware of my own biases when assessing evidence .....it’s very hard to do , but at least I now try

I agree too. Apart from anything-else, who decides what the "bad bits" are?
I had an argument with a friend about this: he believed pulling down the Confederate statues was morally justified. My response was to ask if he was also OK with ISIS destroying religious statues in Iraq and Syria, because they believed they were "morally justified" too...
night everybody
Thanks for the company everyone....I'm off to the Caribbean on BBC 4
