We may have done to a large extent, but some of this is historical.

yeah..well i dont take that view

jimmy savile is a good example of a perv getting away with it-he was championed by tories

and

i reckon EVERYONE is still sickened by his actions

no matter how far back

It's more about abuse off position and power than anything else.

The relationship between abuser and abused is a complex one and can't simply be put as, "So why didn't you say anything?"

They have all the reputation, support, power, network of contacts etc ... I don't blame anyone for thinking 'keep out of their way - it won't last forever and I can move on'.

It happened to me . . .

I worked nightshift, I needed it for personal reasons and originally had a nightshift contract.

Eventually as a 'reshuffle of the service' men were removed from nightshift without notice.

During a telephone conversation with our very well respected and powerful area manager I stated that as we had male residents with intimate personal needs during the night and policy stated, 'wherever possible male staff should attend to the needs of male residents' they were breaking their own rules and men should stay on nightshift.

She said,

"Well - you can take us  on but you'll lose"

A direct threat - she could ruin my career unless I shut up and played ball.

So I shut up and played ball with the knowledge that another nightshift was to become available elsewhere in the company.

I got that job and moved away.

It's not clear to me Pirate what view you don't take from my post., maybe consider what I wrote.

Jimmy Savile IS historical, it was in the past.

Personally I believe we have moved on, there will always be those who transgress and clearly there is still some of it about. I know you are a staunch anti-tory but don't let that colour your judgement into thinking everyone is a sexual predator in Parliament.

Also, a little insight into me, I am far more involved in this world than probably anyone on this forum, I see more and deal with more and probably know a little bit more.

What is so difficult to understand about my post to Pirates OP.

Pirate made the comment "i thought the world had moved on from workplace sexual abuse" I said it may have done so to a large extent.

That prompted me to say that some of what is coming out is historic, which it is.

Again, are some people reading things in my post that I clearly have not said ???

Help me out here people because I really confused.

Thanks @Baz  You understood me.

EC, your post was perfectly clear and nowhere in any of your posts have you suggested that Saville should be excused because the offences were historic.

I know from experience on here that someone misunderstanding and misinterpreting what was actually said, in order to fit a personal political agenda or claim the moral high ground, is incredibly annoying  -  it’s usually preceded with the phrase, “So you think....”  or  â€œSo you are saying....” , when in fact you said and thought nothing of the sort.

From top to bottom. At least JC is doing something about his 'rogues'  Not this bloody lot!

That’s the same JC who was aware of the complaint of sexual harassment by a young woman against Kelvin Hopkins - and was aware of the reprimand given to him by the Whips - but promoted Hopkins anyway.

From top to bottom. At least JC is doing something about his 'rogues'  Not this bloody lot!

I actually have a little bit of sympathy for Theresa May here. She was pretty outspoken about this sort of thing when she was at the Home Office, but her current position as PM (and indeed her party's position in Government) is so weak that there's very little she can do about it now.

A good illustration of this is a bit of "other news" that may have slipped under the radar due to all the other scandals: Priti Patel. For those who've missed it, it turns out that International Development Secretary Patel went on a bit of a private business/diplomatic mission to Israel over the Summer, without telling the Foreign Office first. Then when she was caught out, she repeatedly lied about who she met (a stack of senior Israeli ministers, including PM Netanyahu) and what she'd told (or hadn't told) the FO about the visit beforehand.

At any other time, she'd have been sacked immediately. However May can't afford to lose anyone, so she's given Patel a "warning".

As a bit of balance, it's perhaps worth noting that recent criticism of Corbyn (for promoting the now-suspended Kelvin Hopkins) serves as a reminded of just how weak he was not all that long ago. Corbyn promoted Hopkins despite being warned about allegations against him because the mass rebellion by the Shadow Cabinet meant there was hardly anyone-else left to pick...
