The ultimate act of betrayal - you won't beat it. 2,500 troops is all it took and airpower. That could have been filled in.

To see Johnson and particularly Raab joking and shaking their heads yesterday -  no words. Raab with Blackford was a disgrace.

Raab went to Oxford apparently. I cannot believe how dumb he is. Incompetent beyond belief.

Shocking incompetence in the way this has been handled by ALL governments involved.
Just goes to show Velvet, that having a degree doesn't make a person smart/clever

And what happened to the 20 years of support given to the Afghanistan government.
To allow the Taliban to takeover so quickly is just incredible.

I think this equals 9/11 slim in the horror scale. At least

I was watching tv as the 9/11 happened....it was almost movie like

Let's just hope the Taliban keep to their word and let the people carry on as they were.......as for the insurgent groups...who knows.

This is devastating. Just stunning how quickly the Taliban retook Kabul. The US have handled this appallingly too.

Yes , and don’t you just know that bliddy Trump will probably be making political capital from it

Just shows they weren't defeated, just biding their time!

I have no words Velvet the despair of the Afghanistan people does not even bear thinking about....the imbecile that is Raab and his 40 grand a week holiday, was he buying the fecking island?

Stamer reckons we should embrace B Liars legacy and he wonders why he's not popular Like you, I can't forgive him for Assange, Savile  and let's not forget Jean Paul Menzes! The guy is a fraud, liar and a pretty sh*t politician!

Although I don't think he was ever meant to be, his one gaol is to destroy the Labour Party and socialism....

Well the sh*t really hit the fan today....what a mess!

And that's just what's happening at Kabul airport! What's happening in the rest of the country?

Yes And Now it’s just another breeding ground for terrorists of all persuasion

Baz

Try exporting that again.

Just feckin resign starting with Wallace and Raab.

But who would you replace them with ?
They're all as bad as each other.........and I wouldn't want Labour to take the reins with Starmer at the helm

slimfern

He doesn't know it either cos he never wrote it.

Is democracy working? The US and UK are fecked. And humiliated and untrustworthy.

By fecked I mean domestic dissaray. Is this the country I was brought up in?  No.

I know our problems are yet to come. Insular is not good. Soft power - I might laugh my head off at that tonight going to sleep.

Liz Truss and Ian fecking Botham. You give in right there.

I thought the deadline for getting out of Afghanistan was the 31st August......so why is the FINAL FLIGHT apparently leaving today, the 28th? And what happened to the earlier statement that the evacuation would go on to the LAST MINUTE?

The airfield is run by the Americans, so I would presume they're limited in what "slots" are available to them as the US starts to dismantle facilities. Also; the MOD said yesterday that the UK's ability to process any more evacuations was "extremely reduced and additional numbers will be limited" - I don't think they explicitly connected that to the terrorist attack, but it does seem likely.

As for previous statements: all I'll say is that one of my biggest peeves of the last decade or so has been politicians making promises that it's not actually within their power to guarantee delivery on - i.e. they're entirely dependent on others playing ball, and the whole "promise" is merely an act of faith...

I'm thinking that the terrorist attacks are quite relevant to their decisions...as they should be imo.

Logistics take time, so it would also make sense that civilian evacuations would need to stop somewhat prior to the deadline.

Looks like the latest US strikes have killed several civilians ….it goes from bad to worse .

It wasn't a US strike...they were anti missile trying to stop the 4 missiles heading for Kabul airport, launched by one of the extreme Afghan tribes...possibly Isis? ... intended to kill as many US military as they could.
Definitely unfortunate that they exploded where they did.......either way the missiles were to cause damage & death wherever they landed

That's what I understand too, in a separate action to the anti-missile operation.

I heard that the drone strike took out 2 high ranking Isis soldiers in a vehicle.. one a planner
I did also see the report regarding the life loss but thought that was the anti missile incident
