All things in moderation I reckon.

The units thing is probably, imo, based on a) that when a dr asks you how much you drink or smoke, they double it, as they assume you're lying. b) them trying to dumb it down, i.e. that we wouldn't understand that x amount of units drunk over a week, with a meal is ok, but the same amount of units, drank as neat vodka out of the bottle in one swig isn't!

I think you've hit the nail on the head there. How can the same amount of alcohol affect a 16 stone man as much as someone half the size? Those figures seem to have been conjured out of thin air without much scientific evidence and then thrown out to frighten us.

The demon drink eh?

It's one addiction I don't have, thankfully. I can go for months and not even think about having a drink.

The flipside of that is that when I get a night off (from the little one) and my mates and I are going out I can drink then I will have a LOT lol. I don't mind though, and don't suffer with a hangover. Probably my liver is in pretty good shape or something. I don't know.

Anyway, good luck cutting down your booze Kelly. I'd say it was an easy thing to do, but then again I don't rely on a drink... You can still have the coke but without the spirit wavey

That was where I went wrong when I was young....you try downing a bottle of vodka in one...it's not that easy!!

Big Grin I think I probably did when I was a teenager... never have got along with vodka though. Pernod & Tequila... those are two spirits I can not even look at now.... they make me shudder from some of the teenage binges they were involved in!

Oh.. am laughing at The Leg Opener pernod!!!

I used to drink Pernod & Black when I was 18 - 19 ish. One night, having got completely hammered on the stuff me and my friend went back to my house (my parents house)... we were sitting in the lounge when I started to be sick... my friend dived (in true goalie style) and caught the first 'purge' (thats friendship!)... I managed to get out of the french window (glass slidey door... think they are called french windows?) and onto the patio to complete the act.

The stain was still there for years to come!!

Well yesterday i was reading through a booklet Jamie had from his drink driving course. Reading through it and looking and units and recomended amounts. I discovered that in the eyes of the government i am a alcoholic. Scary word, but it got me thinking. There are some dangerous patterns i have started to fall into and the amount i have been drinking has been on my mind for a while. Coming from a mostly alcholic family i think its time i dried up completely. So giving it a go as from now.
Wish me luck Thumbs Up

Good Luck Kelly Hug

The hubby and me used to drink way too much, then we had the mini-bods and now I just can't be bothered...kids and hangovers don't mix...plus they need me to be able to drive them places, look after them if they are ill etc. They made me evaluate my life....I still have the odd night on the beer (this Saturday and kids will be at my parents'!) but most of the time I volunteer to drive anyway! Besides...the older you get the longer the recovery!!!!!!!!

So, GOOD LUCK again... Valentine
